Perihelion - Zeke Black (istia) - The Magnificent Seven (TV) [Archive of Our Own]
I'd bookmarked this ages ago, but didn't read it until today. Wow, I love this view of them within the seven. The last two paragraphs in particular made me so very happy.

Wind Change by Blackbird
(Magnificent 7, Chris/Vin) Yes! Wahoo! Truly good Mag 7 fic is such a rare and elusive animal, finding a gem is worth celebrating. I loved how this story dealt with sexual orientation in a frontier setting in such a believable, effortless and rewarding way. The characterizations were fantastic, I thought, and the story made me extremely happy.

Under the Skin by Gwyneth Rhys
(Mag 7, Ezra/Buck) Whatever I did this month to deserve new stories from some of my favorite writers, I want to know so I can do it again. But this... this is extraordinary. My very favorite M7 writer, writing my guys, not hers, and in a way that I won't forget. This story is warm, sexy, and wonderfully detailed in its exploration of the common spaces between two very disparate (and uncommon) men. And if you're more into her guys than my guys, don't miss Don't Get Much, (Chris/Vin), also quite wonderful.

Something by Delphi
(The Magnificent Seven, Ezra/Vin) I was beginning to despair of ever finding an Old West Ezra/Vin story that didn't lose me in the first two pages. This one is barely longer than that, but it captures Vin's internal voice really well, I thought, and I liked the picture the author painted for me a whole lot. Thank you to elyn for pointing the way.

Snags, Of Lakes and Rivers, and Home and Away by Zeke Black
(Magnificent 7, Chris/Ezra) "Of Lakes and Rivers" is probably my favorite story in Mag 7 fandom. This series satisfied me on so many levels, and the writing is top-notch, but what gets to me is the way she quietly convinces me that the characters would feel and choose in exactly this way. I love her Vin. I love her Chris. I adore her Ezra. Beautifully drawn with skill and love.

Saving Grace by Maygra
(Magnificent Seven, ATF, Chris/Vin, Vin/Ezra) I am so not a fan of the whole ATF concept, but this story won me over completely. Refreshingly mature and subtly nuanced characters, great pacing and voices that ring so true you can hear the characters in the room with you are the reasons why. I'd also venture to say that the story and character development are so strong that this story could stand on its own, no previous Mag 7 knowledge required. A very rich and satisfying read.

Pilgrim Heart by Gwyneth Rhys
(Magnificent Seven, Chris/Vin) I'm a sucker for the romantic, epic sweep of the dusty old West, as evidenced by my long-standing love affair with one Artemus Gordon and his buff, blue-eyed partner. Now, thanks to the corrupting influence of certain persons who shall remain nameless, I've discovered that good things come in sevens, and even better things come from Gwyn's keyboard. This story is so understated, but it made my little heart ache for these guys all the way through.

No Love for Solitude by Charlotte Hill
(Mag 7, Chris/Buck and Buck/JD implied) Writing of this caliber is, as Eddie Izzard would say, thin on the ground in this fandom. In this case, I'm kind of glad -- if I hadn't been so desperately happy to get my hands on a beautifully written Buck story, I might not have been brave enough to risk Buck/JD. My fears were unfounded; this is a beautiful character study with tons of nuance and feeling, not to be missed.

Last Stand by Katie M
(Magnificent Seven, Gen) Excellent, emotionally affecting ensemble fic that made me purr with happiness. Also don't miss Rites of Passage, a little heavier on the hurt/comfort and not so much with the Vin, Josiah and Nathan as with the other four, but lovely and tense and angsty, and I just love her Chris and Ezra.

The Hour of Separation by TrueEnough
(Magnificent 7 OW, Chris/Vin) This story has been recced quite a bit in fannish circles, and deservedly so; it's many-faceted, complex, subtle and deeply engrossing. I'm putting it here to make sure I can get to it easily, because I know I'll want to read it again. This is how it's done!

The Gift Horse by Graculus
(Mag 7, Ezra/Nathan) Wow, I've been wanting to read just this story for a long time. Amazingly true to the characters, and very convincing. I would have been happy if it had been three times as long, but as it is, it makes for great reading.

Credens Furtiva by Maygra
(Magnificent 7 ATF, Chris/Vin) Wow, is magnificent the right word. This is a sequel to two other stories, both found on Maygra's web page. I'm not generally fond of ATF (/understatement) and Chris/Vin isn't really my pairing, but man, does she make me forget that. I loved the earlier parts of this series, but Credens is something special -- Maygra at her long, angsty, monitor-gripping, brilliant-storytelling best. The characters leap off the screen and the story kept me breathless with my stomach in knots half the time, and made me cheer and wallow in the beauty of her insights the other half. This is one of those stories, like Calypso 's gorgeous Ransom series, that any slash fan who loves a good yarn should read, regardless of fannish allegiance.

Clear Blue Sky by Zeke Black
(Magnificent 7, Chris/Ezra) Zeke doesn't warn for story content, so I won't either -- just be sure you're okay with that before you read. It's a tough one, but it's oh, so worth it.

All Too Familiar by Delphi
(Mag 7, Ezra/Nathan) Thank you, thank you to Maygra for the rec! I've always said this would be the pairing for me in M7 if Nathan had been written with a bit more consistency and depth in the series, and if Rick Worthy's performance had been a bit more compelling. This story really captured the essence of the appeal in these two characters for me, and I really enjoy her writing, too. Plus, hot.
