E-MELD - Field Input Environment for Linguistic Data
The initial version of the E-MELD data input tool-set was designed just for Biao Min, a Hmong-Mien language, but as work proceeded, it became clear that it was useful as a generalized data input tool. As a result, the system was expanded to incorporate the GOLD linguistic ontology being developed as part of the E-MELD project at the University of Arizona. The resulting interface was then tested and expanded by the input of actual linguistic data from endangered languages, one the Guaicuruan language, Mocoví, and the other the Algonquian language Potawatomi. Dr Laura Buszard-Welcher of the E-MELD project, who inputted the Potawatomi data, then worked on refining the interface. The system has now been used to input quantities of data from 12 languages, some of which are listed here.
