StatusPage.io
'Hosted Status Pages for Your Company'. We use these guys in $work, and their service is fantastic -- it's a line of javascript in the page template which will easily allow you to add a "service degraded" banner when things go pear-shaped, along with an external status site for when things get really messy. They've done a good clean job.

Haywire
kellabyte's hack in progress -- 'an asynchronous HTTP server framework written in C. The goal of Haywire is to learn how to create a server with a minimal feature set that can handle a high rate of requests and connections with as low of latency and resource usage as possible. Haywire uses the event loop based libuv platform layer that node.js is built on top of (also written in C). libuv abstracts IOCP on Windows and epoll/kqueue/event ports/etc. on Unix systems to provide efficient asynchronous I/O on all supported platforms.'

Outperforms libevent handily, it seems. Apache-licensed.

websocketd
'like inetd, but for WebSockets' -- 'a small command line tool that will wrap an existing command line interface program, and allow it to be accessed via a WebSocket. It provides a quick mechanism for allowing web-applications to interact with existing command line tools.'

Awesome idea. BSD-licensed. (Via Mike Loukides)

First 5 Minutes Troubleshooting A Server
quite a good checklist of first steps for troubleshooting. Worth bookmarking for "dstat --top-io --top-bio" alone, which is an absolutely excellent tool and new to me

Test-Driven Infrastructure with Chef
Interesting idea.
The book introduces “Infrastructure as Code,” test-driven development, Chef, and cucumber-chef, and then proceeds to a simple example using Chef to provision a shared Linux server. The recipes for the server are developed test-first, demonstrating both the technique and the workflow.

Unicorn at GitHub
new Ruby HTTP server, using a preforked process pool based on select(). Github like it because of failure-recovery problems with Ruby threading bugs in Mongrel. The preforking algo used is extremely rudimentary -- the kind of thing we used in SpamAssassin before I implemented Apache-style preforking in 3.0
