“I can’t think of a single valid reason why they would deny me travel, so what concerns me is that somehow someone did and then I’m worried that I’ll get trouble fixing that issue,” Stenberg said. “I’m a little worried since border crossings are fairly serious matters and getting trouble to visit the US in the future would be a serious blowback for me, both personally with friends and relatives there, and professionally with conferences and events there.”

The Airplane Seating Arrangement that Triggers 'Air Rage'
The presence of a first-class cabin, and having to walk through it to get to economy, is a triggering factor for "air rage" incidents:

As lead researcher Katherine DeCelles explained to Gizmodo, airplanes are like a miniature version of class-based society. “It’s a small world of the greater society that we live in, though one that’s greatly concentrated,” she said. Traveling by plane is stressful enough, but DeCelles believes that seating inequality on airplanes often serves as “the straw that breaks the camel’s back,” and that air rage can be partly explained and understood through the lens of social inequality.

Excellent Vanity Fair article on the AF447 disaster, covering pilots' team-leadership skills, Clipper Skippers, Alternate Law, and autopilot design: 'There is an old truth in aviation that the reasons you get into trouble become the reasons you don’t get out of it.'

'The best pilots discard the [autopilot] automation naturally when it becomes unhelpful, and again there appear to be some cultural traits involved. Simulator studies have shown that Irish pilots, for instance, will gleefully throw away their crutches, while Asian pilots will hang on tightly. It’s obvious that the Irish are right, but in the real world Sarter’s advice is hard to sell. The automation is simply too compelling. The operational benefits outweigh the costs. The trend is toward more of it, not less. And after throwing away their crutches, many pilots today would lack the wherewithal to walk.'

Socializing the Weather
so Met Eireann's crappy weather forecasts are actually just what they give out "for free"; if you pay extra, they have more accurate forecasts. what a scam for a govt department! Handily though, they are mandated by law to give out decent forecasts to pilots -- which are available online
