Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Fortunate Son" (official video) on Vimeo
Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Fortunate Son" official music video. For the band's 50th anniversary, the label decided to commemorate the landmark with creating an official video for one of CCR's most famous songs. To say that directing this was an honor is an understatement. I grew up, like many folks within 40 years of my generation, listening to CCR. Anyone who hears the opening riffs knows exactly what song it is. It evokes pretty strong feelings for all walks of life. The song is a protest song. I wanted to create something that wound the joys of being human together in an homage to the beauty of our country. There's so much division rippling through the world right now, that I wanted to capture what it looks like on an individual level for people to find peace and harmony where they can. Everyone wants some love, respect, acknowledgment, and ability to live the way they want. It may be difficult to find at times, but when it's unturned from under the burden of oppression, these freedoms are the ones we live for. A bulk of this was shot over a couple weeks while on the road with one of my best friends and collaborators, Matt Boman. The people and stories we encountered were far too many and golden to fit into a 2 minute music video. I hope to one day create something that could do the trip its ultimate justice. Until then, please enjoy. FOLIA (2 excerpts/ 60 seconds) on Vimeo
Calculating how short-length cinema might set about to examine the experience of a tree that plays out in year-long cycles, this 24-minute study experiments with polylinear construction and polytemporal scaling of sound and image that were recorded during one 24-hour slice of street life in the span of a city block. 8K video (7680x4320) with 5.1 mix has been downsized to HD (1920x1080) with stereo audio for this preview. THE SOCIAL LIVES OF URBAN TREES is work-in-progress name for an experimental video project that merges environmental sensing with observational cinema techniques—inventing a cinéma vérité approach that takes cues from revelations that emerge from ongoing data capture. A series of video portraits of San Francisco street trees will explore the forms and qualities of public spaces created by individual trees, while using small programmable cameras and sensory apparatus to visualize and listen to the trees' own perspectives regarding their environments and various other inhabitants with whom they share the territory.

FileThis
Working on bookkeeping and taxes... This year I found a service called FileThis which logs into your bank, credit card, and other financial accounts, gets the statements as PDF files, and labels and files them in Dropbox or Google Drive or a couple other similar services. This has saved me *hours* of work doing the same manually... it's just nuts. Oh, and it's free for five financial institutions (or cheap for more). If you feel like it, and you sign up w/ them, maybe use my affiliate link then we'll all get more free connections:

The Manhattan Front Official Trailer on Vimeo
A kaleidoscopic history of how America entered World War I from the trenches of New York City. In the visual tradition of a silent film, this period soap opera gives voice to a fantastically true story. Once upon a time, in 1915, a German saboteur arrived to Manhattan to interrupt the export of American munitions to Britain. He soon found a collaborator in a wayward stevedore who unwittingly led him to a group of labor anarchists. Sabotage and betrayal soon turned these bedfellows into agents of the other’s tragic end. This film plays itself out like a spell through the interaction of archival images and the theatrical rendition of lives as they might have been lived on the Manhattan Front.

FB sends me this 2010 status update this AM. I think the technology is now in place for this idea. A mashup of cloud-based facial-recognition with edge-stored databases for quick retrieval and visual compositing via something like AR-kit. That should do the trick. Politicians can be AR-cloaked in the garb of their sponsors.

Friends - Yours in Sisterhood is very timely film bridging between 1970s feminism and today, in a most unique and quietly provocative way. Don't Be Evil
"So, structure matters. Design is absolutely critical. Design is the process by which the politics of one world become the constraints on another. How are those constraints built? What are its effects on political life? To study the politics of infrastructure is to study the political ideas that get built into the design process, and the infrastructure’s impact on the political possibilities of the communities that engage it."

Ursula K. Le Guin on Anger – Brain Pickings
On this shortest day I read a collection of thoughts on anger in brainpockings, and it resonated strongly. Here it is for you all. http://ift.tt/2Agzo8U “Anger continued on past its usefulness becomes unjust, then dangerous… It fuels not positive activism but regression, obsession, vengeance, self-righteousness. Corrosive, it feeds off itself, destroying its host in the process.”
