Escape From the Trump Cult | The New Republic
“Andrés Miguel Rondón, a Venezuelan economist who fled to Spain, wrote this of his own country’s experience of being caught up in an authoritarian’s fraudulent promises: “[W]hat can really win them over is not to prove that you are right. It is to show that you care. Only then will they believe what you say.””

The Manhattan Front (2018) on Vimeo
Women, anarchists, and spies conjure the fantastically true story of how America entered WW1. Once upon a time, in 1915, a German saboteur arrived to Manhattan to interrupt the export of American munitions to Britain. He soon finds a collaborator in a wayward stevedore who unwittingly leads him to a group of labor anarchists. Sabotage and betrayal soon turn these bedfellows into agents of the other’s tragic end. In the spirit of a silent film from the era, this musical melodrama plays itself out through the interaction of archival images and the theatrical rendition of lives as they might have been lived on The Manhattan Front. FOR PREVIEW PURPOSES ONLY. DO NOT DISSEMINATE.

How Peter Jackson Made WWI Footage Seem Astonishingly New - The New York Times
Peter Jackson went even further than Cathy Lee Crane and I went for The Manhattan Front. Then again he had a Peter Jackson style budget. Forensic lip readers! Cool. I look forward to seeing this.

We Are Drowning in a Devolved World: An Open Letter from Devo - Noisey
“Presently, the fabric that holds a society together has shredded in the wind. Everyone has their own facts, their own private Idaho stored in their expensive cellular phones. The earbuds are in, the feedback loops are locked, and the Frappuccino’s are flowing freely. Social media provides the highway straight back to Plato’s Allegory of the Cave. The restless natives react to digital shadows on the wall, reduced to fear, hate, and superstition. There are climate change deniers, and there are even more who think that the climate is being maliciously manipulated by corporate conglomerates owned by the Central Bank to achieve global control of resources and wealth. If only that James Bond-style fantasy were true, I would be much more excited about the future, which I fear is more of a slow-death conspiracy of dunces like in Mike Judge’s movie, Idiocracy, the movie Devo should have made.”

I like the simplicity of the control interface
I like that in calculates data and power useage
good forum on their website as well
not sure this integrates into Treecorder, but I’m intrigued somehow nonetheless.

Adrien M & Claire B - Mirages et miracles by Adrien M & Claire B | Facebook
At last here is AR which I find imaginative. I like its elemental quality: it dispenses with the concern for convincing illusion, opening the door to a more bold pairing of the "augmented" and the "real" aspects. This gives me ideas for actual work in AR.

What is the East Cut? SF's fastest growing neighborhood
I think I’ve got to start saying: if you’re not comfortable with the Tenderloin then you’re not comfortable with what’s going on in our city today. So called CBDs are a perversion of the public good... neoliberal reality (Or should I say realty?) distortion fields. The doublespeak is insane. Here is the “designer” of the “new neighborhood” name “the east cut” saying the name will catch on “organically” through a $68,000 branding campaign.
