Galaxy Note 9 Will Boast Feature We Wish iPhone X Had
What's interesting about his claim, however, is that Samsung won't be able to get the fingerprint sensor running in the Galaxy S9, which could make its debut as early as late-February. Instead, it appears Samsung will need more time to get it to work and will therefore wait until the Galaxy Note 9 launches next August or September in order to offer the long-awaited feature.

Galaxy Note 8 Hands-on: A Dual-Camera Multitasking Beast
Although the Note 8 is indeed a large device, it’s still thin enough to hold in one hand — easier than previous Note smartphones — and the ability to take up to 100 pages of notes with the phone locked is a plus. Compared with the iPhone 7 Plus, the dual cameras on the Note 8 feel like a keeping-up-with-the-Joneses feature at first glance, but this camera stands out by letting you tweak the bokeh effect before and after the shot. Plus, both cameras have OIS, while the iPhone 7 Plus' telephoto lens doesn't offer that feature.

The biggest test of these kinds of systems is always how well the browser works, and this is where DeX is most impressive. By default, Samsung’s internet browser will load desktop versions of websites, instead of mobile ones, and it supports content blockers and other extensions. Samsung Galaxy Note 7 arrives August 19th with curved display, iris scanner | The Verge

The Samsung 750 EVO (120GB & 250GB) SSD Review: A Return To Planar NAND
The 16nm TLC NAND is the successor to Samsung's 19nm TLC that had a troubled tenure in the 840 EVO. With the 840 EVO, data at rest on the drive degraded over time and eventually required the use of more thorough and thus slower error correction when read back. As a result the 750 EVO inherits the benefits of all the firmware work Samsung did to mitigate the read speed degradation. This, for what it's worth, gives Samsung some degree of a leg-up against other 16/15nm TLC drives that face the same challenges.

On the hardware side the AHCI and NVMe versions of the SM951 are a match. Both utilize Samsung's S4LN058A01-8030 controller dubbed as UBX, which is a PCIe 3.0 x4 controller that apparently supports both AHCI and NVMe driver stacks. That isn't surprising, though, because nearly all client-grade NVMe controllers I know are capable of supporting both -- it's just a matter of developing two separate firmware builds.

Samsung's new RAM heralds the dawn of 6GB smartphones | PCWorld
Samsung says the new DRAM is 30 percent faster than the previous 20nm-based 8Gb LPDDR4 and twice as fast as DDR4 DRAM for PCs. The new mobile memory means a single package can use two chips to carry 3GB of RAM or four chips for 6GB. This will not only result in premium smartphones packing more RAM, but smaller phones won’t have to skimp on memory due to size constraints.

Hands On: Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
You can also access your phone's camera from your tablet, a bit of a heady, phone-ception-y trick. There's also a streaming tool that, using Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, can stream content from your tablet onto your smart TV—like a Chromecast. But you can also stream content from your TV to your tablet, while it's still playing on your set. It only works with really recent smart TVs, though, and of course, among them, Samsung's latest line.

My 'aha!' moment in reviewing Samsung's Galaxy Note 5 | Computerworld
While it is essentially a big Galaxy S6 with a stylus thrown in, that perspective is all relative. The more I use the new Note and notice the inconspicuous enhancements it introduces into the equation, the more the regular Galaxy S6 is starting to seem like a scaled-back and less complete version of this device. Subtle as it may seem, that shift speaks volumes.

Samsung resurrects the dream of a hardware keyboard | The Verge
Unlike the Typo keyboard, which communicated with the iPhone over Bluetooth and extended the length of the device to unwieldy proportions, Samsung's keyboard case snaps on top of the phone's display, effectively blocking half of the screen. The phone recognizes the keyboard and adjusts its user interface accordingly, shrinking everything to the top half of the screen. Keypresses are sensed by the screen underneath, eliminating the need for any batteries or Bluetooth pairing hassles in the keyboard itself. You can pop the keyboard on and off pretty easily, and if you want the full glory of an unobstructed display, you can snap it to the backside of the phone for storage.

Samsung’s new phones can live stream to YouTube | The Verge
Live Broadcast appears to be Samsung's play against popular live streaming apps like Periscope and Meerkat. The feature is built directly into the native camera app, and it allows you to schedule schedule streams or push them live immediately. Stream are up to 1080p resolution at 60fps. It should be noted, though, that there's no social integration within the camera app, so you can't see comments.

Hands On With the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 and S6 Edge+ | PCMag.com
Let's take a look at the Note 5 first. At 6.03 x 2.99 x 0.3" (HWD) and 6.03 ounces, it's actually slightly smaller, narrower and lighter than either the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Moto X Style, or iPhone 6 Plus. Samsung replaced the faux-leather back with a smooth glass, S6-style back with a camera hump, and improved the S Pen by making it flatter and also easier to pop out of the body of the phone. Is the phone big? Of course it's big. But it feels a little less unwieldy than the platter-sized Moto X Style and iPhone 6 Plus.

Samsung's next-gen tech could spawn smaller, supercharged batteries | PCWorld
The key to the new batteries is silicon, which is a great material for anodes (the electrode through which a battery’s electrical current flows) because it can hold a larger charge than graphite-based anodes. Scientists have been talking about silicon anodes for years, and some li-ion batteries are already using silicon because of its larger capacity.

New exploit turns Samsung Galaxy phones into remote bugging devices | Ars Technica
The vulnerability is in the update mechanism for a Samsung-customized version of SwiftKey, available on the Samsung Galaxy S6, S5, and several other Galaxy models. When downloading updates, the Samsung devices don't encrypt the executable file, making it possible for attackers in a position to modify upstream traffic—such as those on the same Wi-Fi network—to replace the legitimate file with a malicious payload. The exploit was demonstrated Tuesday at the Blackhat security conference in London by Ryan Welton, a researcher with security firm NowSecure. A video of his exploit is here.
