The Google-Facebook Duopoly Threatens Diversity of Thought - WSJ
‘A monopoly on the means of communication,” Robert Shea and Robert Anton Wilson wrote in “Leviathan,” their 1975 novel, “may define a ruling elite more precisely than the celebrated Marxian formula of ‘monopoly in the means of production.’ ” Bear that in mind when you hear this next statistic: In 2017 Google and Facebook have accounted for 84% of all digital advertising outside China, including 96% of its growth, according to an industry forecast this month from Zenith, Magna and GroupM.

Automation and artificial intelligence are going to have a big impact in all kinds of worlds. These technologies are new and real and they are coming soon. Facebook is deeply interested in these trends. We don’t know where this is going, we don’t know what the social costs and consequences will be, we don’t know what will be the next area of life to be hollowed out, the next business model to be destroyed, the next company to go the way of Polaroid or the next business to go ...

AI, Apple and Google — Benedict Evans
It seem to me that there are two things that make it hard to talk about the AI explosion. The first is that 'AI' is an impossibly broad term that implies we have a new magic hammer that turns every problem into a nail. We don't - we have a bunch of new tools that solve some, but not all, problems, and the promise of extracting new insight from all sorts of data pools will not always be met. It might be the wrong data, or the wrong insight. The second is that this field is growing and changing very fast, and things that weren't working now are, and new things are being discussed all the time. So we have excitement and bullshit, skepticism and vision, and a bunch of amazing companies being created. Some of this stuff will be in everything and you won't even notice it, and some of it will be the next Amazon.

Shoshana Zuboff: Secrets of Surveillance Capitalism
Governmental control is nothing compared to what Google is up to. The company is creating a wholly new genus of capitalism, a systemic coherent new logic of accumulation we should call surveillance capitalism. Is there nothing we can do?surveillance capita

"Yeah, we ditched Google."
For the past five years, we had been using Google Analytics for monitoring our web traffic. Innocent enough decision, right? Then we asked ourselves, “are we contributing to the mass surveillance of the web by using a feature-rich, yet free service that tracks web visitors?” Sadly. we didn’t like the answer to that question. “Yes, by using Google Analytics, we are furthering the erosion of privacy on the web.”

Facebook Privacy: Chats Are Being Scanned By A CIA Funded Company
Considering that they were crawling links that were not published anywhere else and only sent via FB chat “open Web” seems to be an understatement.

Also, the interesting part is that recent focus of “Recorded Future” are terrorist groups such as ISIS, cyber criminal organizations and any kind of “public” internet activity that’s related to possible threats.

Conclusion would be that the privacy on facebook does not exist and their lawyers covered it well with EULA and their privacy policy:

Waze: Google’s New Spying Tool | Zdziarski's Blog of Things
In 2013, Google acquired Waze, a tool designed to find you the best route while driving. Upon hearing of the application, I thought I’d check it out. Unfortunately, I didn’t get past the privacy policy, which was updated only six months ago. While Waze’s policy begins with “Waze Mobile Limited respects your privacy”, reading the policy demonstrates that they do no such thing.
