How to Transcribe Audio and Video Files to Text with YouTube
A quick Google search will return a list of paid transcription services where you can hire people who will accurately transcribe and convert the audio content of your digital files into text. However, if you are looking for an inexpensive and automated option, YouTube can help.

When you upload a video file to YouTube, it will automatically generate subtitles or closed captions for that video. Google uses speech recognition to transform the speech portion of your video into closed captions that are displayed in the video player when the viewer hits the CC button (see screenshot).

Facebook launches a unified inbox for businesses on Facebook, Messenger and Instagram | TechCrunch
Now those businesses can respond to all of those comments from Facebook’s Pages Manager app. The inbox in the app will now include a unified stream of all that commentary — including comments on their Facebook posts, posts on their Page, messages and comments on their Instagram and videos — as well as individual tabs for focusing on individual channels.

Twitter unveils new options for customer service | TechCrunch
Twitter has been expanding the customer service side of its product, with recent additions including a Customer Service settings page for businesses.

Today it’s adding a couple more features — namely, an automated welcome message that shows up whenever a customer starts a Direct Message conversation with a business’ account, and “quick replies” that ask the customer to get more specific about their request before the conversation starts.

For example, I opened a DM window with the Evernote customer service account, and before I even sent anything, I was greeted with a “Hi there!” and asked to specify whether I was checking on the status of an existing ticket, asking for technical help or submitting a feature request.

Twitter announces Periscope Producer for streams with professional equipment
Periscope is getting a big new feature today aimed at helping brands and companies share ‘professional, produced live video.’ Basically, Twitter wants Periscope videos to stop be more than just blurrycam messesshot on cellphones.

In its current form, Periscope only streams from consumer cameras devices, meaning brands with the resources for expensive equipment would be relegated to shooting video with their phones. That doesn’t make for exciting options when Facebook, YouTube, Twitch and other all offer both mobile and professional video tools.

The company has so far partnered with a few different brands like Disney, Louis Vuitton, and Sky News, but you can expect a lot more to show up soon. It will still be a bit of an uphill battle for Periscope to match up to the popularity of services like Facebook and YouTube, but with the recent success of streams on Twitter, Periscope definitely still has room to grow.

WhatsApp races to internationalize Snapchat’s overlaid creative tools | TechCrunch
Every member of the Facebook family of apps is pushing to bring copies of Snapchat’s best features to international audiences before Snapchat blows up abroad. There was the Facebook Camera Feed, Instagram Stories and Messenger Day — and now WhatsApp is cloning Snapchat’s creative tools.

Now you’ll be able to add overlaid text with multiple colors and fonts, drawings and emojis to photos and videos you shoot or upload with WhatsApp. These allow for better visual communication, where you can add captions, highlight certain things, jazz up scenes with silly doodles or augment them with emoji. Snapchat popularized this style of chat, which can feel more fun, inspired and vivid than messaging with just text or unadorned images.

WhatsApp has also grabbed Snapchat’s front-facing flash feature for illuminating your face by blinking your screen white, which lets you take low-light selfies. Meanwhile, you can zoom in before taking a photo or while shooting a video by dragging a single finger up and down the screen, which allows one-handed zooming.

Facebook Is Sprucing Up Its Slideshow Ads With Text and Music | Adweek
Facebook is updating its Slideshow ads to help marketers make multimedia ads straight from their mobile phones.
This morning, the social network unveiled updates to its Slideshow product, which launched nearly a year ago, to now create the ads from the Facebook mobile app.
The unit already lets advertisers create multimedia images from still shots. However with today's updates, brands will be able to include text and music. Facebook is initially offering a range of themed audio tracks, but the company said it will soon allow brands to upload their own.
The latest version will also allow for including as many as 10 photos—a step up from the three to seven that were allowed in the beginning. Footage can be taken from brand photos, still images from video or from Facebook stock images.

Instagram gives marketers a new tool to muzzle haters - Digiday
Brand media accounts are frequent targets of customer complaints, offensive slurs and hashtag trolls. Now Instagram is hoping to contain that by giving users — including brands — greater control over the moderation of their comments.

As the Washington Post reported, the platform has started allowing “accounts with high volume comment threads” to filter their comment streams, and even turn off comments entirely. Instagram already lets accounts with high volume of comments use a basic profanity filter and block out words or phrases commonly reported as offensive. But the new feature will let accounts take more charge and let them identify and block terms that affect them on an individual basis.

This would be particularly useful for brands that champion divisive issues of body positivity, inclusivity and diversity more than others, said Gary Nix, senior social strategist with iCrossing. “Those issues create both good and bad conversations, since people’s tempers tend to flare up more,” he said. “It can be effective in curtailing the negative side.”

Instagram seeks solution for the internet's troll problem
Campaign understands that Instagram is testing ways to manage abuse and spam, and it is trialling these methods on accounts with a high volume of comments – namely celebrities.

Instagram wouldn’t comment on whether it is testing anti-abuse tools with Swift, or whether this would give her the ability to remove all negative comments at will.

But a spokeswoman said: "We’re always looking for ways to help people have a positive experience with comments on Instagram.

"We're currently focused on providing tools to improve accounts with the most high-volume comment threads, and we will use our learnings to continue to improve the comment experience on Instagram."

Facebook introduces guided tours and a heatmapping tool for 360 videos | VentureBeat | Social | by Ken Yeung
Facebook has launched two new creator tools designed to give publishers additional insights into how people respond to their 360 videos. More than 250,000 videos with this capability have been uploaded to the social network since September, and as adoption continues to increase, there’s going to be a need to give creators information about what’s performing and how to make adjustments to have a better experience for people.

The first tool is called Guide and is essentially a “map” to help people navigate through a 360 video as it plays. Facebook claims that it’ll allow for a “lean-back experience” and you will “never miss a key moment.” It’s similar to annotations within YouTube, where you can bookmark key moments in a video. “People who view your video will automatically be directed around the video as it plays, ensuring that they don’t miss the action,” the company explained in a blog post.

To use it, the first thing to do is check the box that states your video was recorded in the 360-degree format. Within the 360 Controls tab, enable the guide and watch your video from start to finish, identifying the parts that you’d like to highlight. When you find one, select “+ Add Point” and insert it into the guide.

Instagram officially announces its new business tools | TechCrunch
Instagram this morning officially announced the launch of its tools for business users, including new business profiles, analytics and the ability to turn Instagram posts into ads directly from the Instagram app itself. The launch comes following a series of leaks and reports of the tools’ imminent launch, and largely confirms details we already knew — like how the profiles would be structured, and what sort of insights on posts and audience demographics would be available.

The company engaged with hundreds of businesses using its platform ahead of developing the tools in order to determine what needs were currently under-served. The business owners told Instagram they wanted better ways to help their profiles and posts stand out, tools that would let them understand their current and prospective customers and those that would help them acquire new customers.

This led to the creation of business profiles, Insights (analytics) and new tools to promote posts.

Brand identity.
Brand meaning.
Brand responses.
Brand relationships.

Within these four levels are six building blocks that further help with brand development. These six building blocks are salience, performance, imagery, judgments, feelings, and resonance.
