Alphabet of Illiteracy - The Inspiration Room
“Alphabet of Illiteracy”, an interactive feature developed for Pearson’s “Project Literacy” global campaign, has been awarded the Grand Prix for Health and Awareness at the Cannes Lions Health awards. 26 original sculptures by Wilfrid Wood were turned into 3D CGI models to be used in an animated film and linked with a re-write of the 1948 hit “A You’re Adorable”. The A to Z collection highlights the plight faced by people struggling to break out of illiteracy. The film was seeded in the UK across digital platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Unruly and Virool, targeting the millennial audience, with a focus on those who have a particular interest in social issues and those who are highly active and influential in social media. A complementary social media strategy tells the story of each letter and highlights Project Literacy partners’ work, as well as experiences of those affected by illiteracy. This will launch across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, YouTube and Tumblr. Each letter has a dedicated Instagram account featuring content on each topic, allowing users to discover each letter of the ‘Alphabet of Illiteracy’ natively on the platform. Outreach will engage key social influencers that include people close to literacy and sustainable development and a number of high profile partners, who will add their voice to the campaign.

New results from The CMO Survey point to this disconnect. Social media spending is currently 9.4% of marketing budgets and is expected to increase 128% to 21.4% in the next five years (see Figure 1). However, the 351 marketing leaders responding to August 2014 survey overwhelmingly report that proof lags spending and only 15% of marketers report their companies can show the impact of social media using quantitative approaches.

What’s the buzz? Companies experienced a 25% percent increase in sales through the Internet in the last year—from 8.9% to 11.3% of sales. There does appear to be a sizable opportunity in reaching customers through the Internet that underlies this spending push. Consistent with this view, digital marketing, more broadly, is expected to increase 10.8% in the next year, while traditional advertising budgets are predicted to decrease 3.6%. In other words, there is a signal in all this buzz.

Social and Native Ads Are More Effective Than Email, Study Says | Adweek
Marketers say that social media ads and native promotions are better for brands than email, according to Millward Brown Digital's study for MediaBrix. When asked what ad types "meet their digital branding objectives," those surveyed—who could make multiple selections—answered with the following frequency: social (51 percent); native (46 percent); email (36 percent); paid search (23 percent); mobile Web (23 percent); "emotionally targeted" in-game (20 percent); mobile in-app (20 percent); programmatic (18 percent); regular in-game (14 percent); text messaging (12 percent); and ads purchased directly from websites and blogs (11 percent).
