Vox Ex Machina - 99% Invisible
99% Invisible is about all the thought that goes into the things we don’t think about — the unnoticed architecture and design that shape our world.

99% Invisible started as a project of KALW public radio and the American Institute of Architects in San Francisco.

The media's language about killers in mass shootings analyzed — Quartz
Are there ingrained racial biases that surface when TV news outlets report these tragedies? Is this double standard persistent, or merely anecdotal?
Keen to answer these questions, Quartz reviewed the language used to describe the killers of 27 mass shootings in the US, beginning with the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012.

To do this, we used a list of mass shootings maintained by Mother Jones and included only those killers where the race was ultimately identified. We then looked at transcripts from six cables news stations related to these shootings in immediate two-day period after the news broke.

Steph🦅 on Twitter: (Witnees accounts of MSD School shooting)
While Officer Peterson kept 500 feet of distance and told others to do the same, this was my experience as a senior on the first floor of the 1200 building that day. Thank you for absolutely nothing. #NeverAgain

Understanding Trump « George Lakoff
There is a lot being written and spoken about Trump by intelligent and articulate commentators whose insights I respect. But as a longtime researcher in cognitive science and linguistics, I bring a perspective from these sciences to an understanding of the Trump phenomenon.

We should have seen Trump coming | Ta-Nehisi Coates | News | The Guardian
I have often wondered how I missed the coming tragedy. It is not so much that I should have predicted that Americans would elect Donald Trump. It’s just that I shouldn’t have put it past us. It was tough to keep track of the currents of politics and pageantry swirling at once. All my life I had seen myself, and my people, backed into a corner. Had I been wrong?

UPDATE: (2012) Global Warming: A Research Guide to the U.S. Approach to the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Kyoto Protocol - GlobaLex
Approach & Sources: This is not a traditional research guide. It is a continuously updated narrative of the efforts of the U.S. government and 50 states to follow much of the rest of the world and enact greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions controls. However, the U.S. Congress can’t decide whether global warming is happening at all; if it is, whether it is a natural or an anthropogenic phenomenon; and if the latter, whether the consequences of maintaining the status quo will be sufficiently devastating to justify the effort and expense of change.

If these Canadians lived in the United States, how would they protect their privacy? (Bennett, 2017)
This paper contributes to the debate about the adequacy of the United States’ fragmented, networked, federal system of privacy protection, an outlier among modern industrialized Western democracies, by taking the perspective of an individual seeking redress for privacy invasions. We analyze five actual privacy cases from the Canadian private sector, investigated by the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, and examine whether the privacy “wrong” experienced by Canadian complainants would be illegal in the U.S., how an individual would proceed with a complaint and what the outcome might be.

This Election Is All About Health Care - Bloomberg [http://www.bloomberg.com/]
The most important fact of the
2012 election is that the Affordable Care Act was passed in
2010; it just hasn’t been fully implemented yet. If President
Barack Obama is re-elected, the bulk of it will roll out on
schedule in 2014.
