Typora — a minimal markdown reading & writing app
Somewhat annoying website. But: really impressive new Markdown app - its view/hide source mode is in some ways nicer than Macdown/Mou, and it has detailed support of the Markdown 'spec'. Going to keep trying this whilst it's in beta.

Autodesk Graphic - Mac Illustration and Graphic Design
Much more Illustrator-like than Sketch is, in many ways, and affordable. Certainly leaps ahead of Inkscape in not being rubbish. Going to use this for lasercutting/frontpanel work, I think.

Slow Virtual Hosts in OS X Lion |
"Basically Lion handles .local TLDs differently to Snow Leopard. Whenever I would try to access my phpMyAdmin installation at http://xampp.local/phpMyAdmin, Lion would take a ridiculously long time to resolve the host and it probably has something to do with the Multicast DNS feature of Bonjour." What the hell? That explains a lot.

MarsEdit 3 - Desktop blog editing for the Mac.
MarsEdit 3 is out; the headline feature is the WYSIWYG mode, but for me, the headline features are syntax-highlighting, support for Wordpress Pages, and integration with Lightroom's library. Sadly, it's 10.6 only, and my knackered MBP is 10.5... but it's an upgrade I'll be making asap.

The reason CakePHP has issues connecting to MySQL database on OSX 10.5 is because its database adaptor is explicitly looking for the default mysql socket defined in your php.ini. If you fix that, everything works. The critical adjective, if you ever search for this again, is the "OSX" part.
