Who'd be a woman in power? | Libertine
“While male leaders are allowed to have complex personalities, powerful women are often summed up by hackneyed stereotypes that undermine them and their power,” said Jenna Goudreau in 2011. She asked powerful women, as well as career and gender experts, to give her their “least favorite stereotype about powerful women” and boiled them down to a top ten: Ice Queen, Single & Lonely, Tough, Weak, Masculine, Conniving, Emotional, Angry, Token, Cheerleader. But you could easily pick other words: Matriarch, Femme Fatale, Hysteric, Bitch, Sister, Saint. Pick your poison, the results are the same.

How Long Can You Wait to Have a Baby? - Jean Twenge - The Atlantic
The data, imperfect as they are, suggest two conclusions. No. 1: fertility declines with age. No. 2, and much more relevant: the vast majority of women in their late 30s will be able to get pregnant on their own. The bottom line for women, in my view, is: plan to have your last child by the time you turn 40. Beyond that, you’re rolling the dice, though they may still come up in your favor. “Fertility is relatively stable until the late 30s, with the inflection point somewhere around 38 or 39,” Steiner told me. “Women in their early 30s can think about years, but in their late 30s, they need to be thinking about months.” That’s also why many experts advise that women older than 35 should see a fertility specialist if they haven’t conceived after six months—particularly if it’s been six months of sex during fertile times.

In other words, if women talk at all, this may be perceived as ‘too much’ by men who expect them to provide a silent, decorative background in many social contexts. This may sound outrageous, but think about how you react when precocious children dominate the talk at an adult party.

How Some Men Harass Women Online and What Other Men Can Do to Stop It
When I write about feminism and men’s violence against women, I often receive supportive comments. While some of the praise is earned, much of it gives me a lot of credit for doing very little.
When women write about those same topics, it’s a different story. We men threaten women bloggers and writers with rape and murder. We call women “man-haters,” verbally abuse them, hack into their email accounts and stalk them. We alter photos of women, putting cuts and bruises on their faces. Then we excuse ourselves, saying we were “just joking–can’t you feminists take a joke?”
