Facebook Crossed The Creepy Line And Can’t Go Back | Buzzfeed
"Google makes a lot of futuristic technology [...] that feel like useful tools on their own merits. Facebook’s core features [...] while disruptive and transformative at scale, were never exactly new. Facebook’s true innovation is a ruthlessly efficient and effective machine that serves highly targeted ads in ways that seem increasingly adversarial to traditional views of personal privacy."

The American Chopper meme, explained | Vox
Apparently it's all about Socratic dialectics. And rednecks with Hulkamania moustaches throwing chairs at each other. Personally, of course, I favour the Downfall meme as a best fit for my own personal style of philosophical discourse.

Why did fans leave LiveJournal, and where will they go after Tumblr? | Slate
Because the RUSSIAN MAFIA. Although it's interesting to see that that isn't the sole cause, and the rise in Dreamwidth doesn't directly correlate with LJ's specific fuckups. I gots questions about some of the methodology here, but there's plenty that's interesting.

The 29 Stages Of A Twitterstorm | Buzzfeed
aka. The 1 Articles Most Likely To Redeem Buzzfeed For All The Linkbait Crap They Constantly Post. This is close to perfect. I got to about stage 8 before I realized that it wasn't a real thing that I'd simply missed. And then---aaand then!---someone set up the Twitter accounts mentioned therin and /it began to happen in real life/. Fiction was insufficiently vast to contain its awesomeness. Parodies don't get much better.

"I know that I, for one, will be much less likely to mention trans at all, in any context, because the upset and anger over ‘getting it wrong’ (and it does seem there are some varying reactions, so this too is subjective) is too painful. And so we shut up. And nothing is said. And that’s really depressing."

The Web We Lost - Anil Dash
"By 2007 it was clear that Google had changed the web forever, and for the worse, by corrupting links". Oi, Anil, some of us still use Flickr. And I know what else we lost: blog posts that don't come with blatant comment-whoring with a clumsily shoehorned question in the last sentence.

Glenfiddich and Sugar | Edinburgh Eye
@caitlinmoran says "Lord Sugar vs Donald Trump on Twitter is like a 50ft high Mr Burns and a 50ft high Del Boy fighting in the middle of Tokyo #rivetted" and I am forced to agree. This is an epic bitchfight that deserves immortalization. "Without my show you'd be nothing!" declaims Trump to Sugar, presumably while steepling his fingers and stroking his goatee (unhealthily yellow and unnaturally-shaped, no doubt). I owned an Amstrad CPC twenty years before reality television existed.

Why I retired mycrot.ch
"I’ve now migrated my personal site and blog to the jonliv.es domain you’re reading this on now. My personal website is also directly linked to my reputation, both professional and personal, and I’m making a stand that I don’t want either to say `Hey, this guy’s a bro just like us'." The reasons why are pretty good, too.
