Seagull falls into pot of curry, terrible puns ensue | The Poke
The pilau creature. He terned orange. After that experience he must have wanted his cardamom. I'm sure he'd pa-rather not have fallen in. He'll be more peshwari in future. Sorry for all the puns, I'm only rogan joshing.

Why the World Is Drawing Battle Lines Against American Tech Giants | NYT
"What's happening right now is the nation-state is losing its grip". I've been waiting for this for years. Now that it's happening, of course, the Americans are in charge of it.

"it is clear that the users appreciated the ability to 'nuke their neighbors' [...] Many described using it as 'fun,' which is not a term usually associated with targeting nuclear weapons and evaluating their effects."

This is true, and wise, and beautiful, and it resonates strongly with me. If you're reading this far down, whomever and wherever you are, I love you. You are my tribe.

The $300 Million Button | UIE
This is not just about UX. This is about customer relationships and brand engagement. This is about companies being able to see past the end of their own nose. There are certain people I know who need this blogpost tattooed onto the inside of their eyelids.

Bitcoin mining on a 55 year old IBM 1401 mainframe: 80 seconds per hash
"[...] to mine a block at current difficulty, the IBM 1401 would take about 5x10^14 years (about 40,000 times the current age of the universe). The electricity would cost about 10^18 dollars. And you'd get 25 bitcoins worth about $6000. Obviously, mining Bitcoin on an IBM 1401 mainframe is not a profitable venture."

Amazon introduces Prime Air
Okay, AMZN, I gots questions: 1. What kind of range do you get on a UAV loaded with a boxset of _The Art Of Computer Programming_? 2. Does smart-missile technology actually allow you to pinpoint people's doors with letterbox accuracy? 3. Hypothetically, if one were to catch a drone with a net, what kind of price could I expect on the open market? Asking for a friend. 4. Are adequate compensation plans in place for delayed delivery due to birdstrike? 5. But is there enough room on the drone for the black and white cat?

Conservatives erase Internet history - Public Sector IT
I'm not quite sure that "editing robots.txt" exactly counts as "attempting to erase a ten-year backlog of speeches from Internet", but nonetheless the words "memory hole" spring readily to mind. Manifesto commitments are a bitch, ain't they?

The 29 Stages Of A Twitterstorm | Buzzfeed
aka. The 1 Articles Most Likely To Redeem Buzzfeed For All The Linkbait Crap They Constantly Post. This is close to perfect. I got to about stage 8 before I realized that it wasn't a real thing that I'd simply missed. And then---aaand then!---someone set up the Twitter accounts mentioned therin and /it began to happen in real life/. Fiction was insufficiently vast to contain its awesomeness. Parodies don't get much better.

The Blade Bone Inn: Restaurant Reviews | Trip Advisor
Probably the greatest management response of all time. We've all had customers like this. You can see them coming a mile off and you know that you're going to lose no matter what you do. Fortunately, this is what the right of reply function on Tripadvisor was designed for. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm strongly tempted to pop down to Reading for a steak.
