Prince Wrote About Women in a Way That Most Contemporary Male Artists Still Can't | NOISEY
I always thought that he'd simply found a way to do objectification with panache (but what panache). Shows how much I know.

How women prepare for first dates | Lalajia's random recommendations
When I have a ladyfriend round I show them where the key is so that they can get out by themselves should they wish to do so. All of them, so far, have looked at me like I was odd.

The Opposite of Rape Culture is Nurturance Culture | Dating Tips for the Feminist Man
Fascinating, relatable, and very important. "This is men’s work to do, and yet it is needed by people of all genders who have men in their lives [...] It can be as simple as sending someone you know this piece, and saying “I’m available.” It can be as simple as posting this piece, and saying “I’m here.”"

I'm available. I'm here.

Fantastic article, with specific, detailed action points. More of this please. (The only way this could be nerdier is if it were Harcourt Fenton Mudd College.)

Scott Adams: We live in a matriarchy because men have to get permission for sex | we hunted the mammoth
I'm starting to really regret liking Dilbert in the 90s. Was Adams always this nuts, or did we send him this way when we all agreed with him that workplaces were a bit odd in general?

pick-up lines for feminists - Lesley Kartali - Lodestar Quarterly
#ActivistPickupLines was briefly a hashtag meme on the twitters today. (My contributions: "What's your sign? mines says `TORIES OUT'", and "Girl you must be tired cuz u've been a capitalist running dog all day".) Of course somebody has already done it better. Congratulations, Lesley Kartali. You are the Simpsons of the twitters.

WEEKLY WANKER #017: Wings Over Scotland | A Thousand Flowers
Interesting. This is basically @EyeEdinburgh's argument, except expressed with a modicum of sanity and a refreshing lack of frothing hysteria. FWIW my opinions on the Rev Stu are well known: I do not agree with him about everything, but he is a remarkable source of information on #indyref-related topics. Unlike Jane Carnall, who used to have a good blog but sadly went /completely fucking loopy/ a year or so ago, I do not believe that the fact he once said something bad about women five years ago automatically means that we should all vote No.

A different point of view on the Moore thing
"If the left is about equality and if feminism is about women, then in the left, everyone should have an equal voice, and in feminism, all women should have an equal voice. Nobody – NOBODY – should be required to button their lip until we get to some unidentified benchmark in the great struggle for equality, whereafter their concerns will magically become valid. "

In which Muslim women have always been muhaddithat - scholars of the Hadith
"Muslim women’s religious scholarship is seen as sort of a cottage industry: if women study, it is pretty much in the purdah of their own homes or in segregated rooms in mosques or madrassas [...] When he started on the project, he expected to find 20 or 30 women, enough to fill a single-volume biographical dictionary. Seven years on, he has found more than 8,000, and his dictionary now stands at 40 volumes."

Purdah is to religious scholarship as Stalin is to classical music composition: discuss.
