I have seen many intranets over the years. One thing that always makes me sad is when I see a new intranet launched with a great design, clear structure, interesting content……but no or poor governance.

It's not the technology, stupid! You need to embed several stakeholders and especially make collaboration es easy as possible vor the main stakeholder group: those people/employees who shall collaborate. It's them not the management who will use it on a day to day useage.
