10 Lessons from 4 Years Working Remotely at Automattic | When I Have Time by Sara Rosso
Four years seems like a lifetime, but it’s a pretty short time in my work history, and it’s been the most life-changing job so far for me. I’ve had years where I spent 40+% of my year away from my home base (with only two weeks off), and I told you how I almost stopped myself from applying and sabotaging my own success. Working at Automattic and working in a distributed team has changed how I will look at work and being productive for the rest of my life.

A cure for “Social Media” allergy.
It still happens…managers who do not want “Social Media” in their organization, since they think this means “wasting valuable working time”. Sometimes it is Communications who resist, because they think Social Media will remove the focus from their Corporate News items. Or it could be HR or Legal, because they are afraid that people will say inappropriate things.

The digital workplace: why, how and what
Let’s take the digital workplace as an example. Too often people start with “what it is” instead of starting with the “why it is important”. In this year’s Digital Workplace Trends survey (which will open early September), one of the questions deals with the “why”.

We want to find out what the compelling reasons are for organizations to take the leap of deliberately designing a digital workplace for their workforce – a decision that implies a long term strategy, significant resources and lots of energy and change management.

Was ist “Collaboration”?

The Content Economy: Social Collaboration vs The Existing Communication Culture
Eines gefällt mir (leider) besonders gut: "Managers don’t see communication as their key responsibility and their communication skills are not being considered important when appointed as managers. They are considered good managers because they are loyal to the management and beaurocrats who love - and excel at - reporting facts and figures upwards (and sometimes downwards) in the hieararchy."

Dear Public Relations people and communicators: Stand up and fight for "Relations"! Work on relations, be related to the people who are interested in your business - or even those who even are not. Don't speak or talk to: communicate.

Start with looking in the mirror :-)

But why should Public Relations business innovate more intense and often than other businesses? When it works it works ...
