I have a problem with the Microsoft video because of its content. What they aspire to be is Apple, as usual. This video is like a chart where you take the current Apple product lineup and project out 10 years with a ruler, assuming the products stay the same but gain even richer features.

In the video, Richardson talks about the following myths:

One of the tips he shares is the importance of looking outside your industry to solve problems. He goes further in his book about changing the way you innovate and think about innovation. One surprise I found in the book is to stop using a suggestion box. Stephen goes to explain that they frequently don’t work, waste time and the ideas can oftentimes be answers to questions that no one asked.

We've always been keen on Google+ Hangouts, but a recent update provided some extras that make the experience even better. As seen in the streaming of Google IO 2011, physical computing and interactive enviroments are one of the main topics opening the conference. The Android Open Accessory Kit is going to allow Android related devices receive data from different sensors (just via USB, for now).

The Android Open Accessory Development Kit (ADK) provides an implementation of an Android USB accessory that is based on the Arduino open source electronics prototyping platform, the accessory’s hardware design files, code that implements the accessory’s firmware, and the Android application that interacts with the accessory. The hardware design files and code are contained in the ADK package download.

The board is  based on the Arduino Mega2560 and Circuits@Home USB Host Shield designs, since it communicates to the phone in its “accessory” mode. You can get the custom library / firmware to make it run & test with the shield pictured on top.

Can I also recommend using a creative combination of amateur tools to create a professional-looking screencast? For example, our team used Screenflow to "shoot" and edit small clips, Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.ne... to record and edit the voice-over, Prezi (http://prezi.com/) to record elegant motion captured clips with graphics, a little bit of Powerpoint, Photoshop, etc. for static slides and such, and the result comes out a thousand times better than a straight-up screencast.

Ich habe mittlerweile mal in 2, 3 Vorträge reingeschaut und finde den Vortrag “Das überwachte Netz” von Lawblogger Udo Vetter besonders unterhaltsam. Auch der Vortrag über den Abmahnwahn in Deutschland ist sehr interessant.

Martin Giles from the Economist did the interview, and did an excellent job letting Catmull cover some excellent territory.

David Heineimeier Hansson, the creator of Ruby on Rails and partner at 37signals in Chicago, says that planning is guessing, and for a start-up, the focus must be on today and not on tomorrow. He argues that constraints--fiscal, temporal, or otherwise--drive innovation and effective problem-solving. The most important thing, Hansson believes, is to make a dent in the universe with your company.

Transmageddon is a video transcoder for Linux and Unix systems built using GStreamer. It supports almost any format as its input and can generate a very large host of output files. In this 4 minute video, author Jeff Jarvis and economist Umair Haque discuss the style and shape of new business models emerging from the digital age. They contrast the command and control models of the industrial era with the notion of building communities out of which value emerges. Part of that process involves the notion that it may not be clear what a business model will look like in the early stages of business development and that it may well change as the business finds what works (success) and what doesn’t (failure.)

Die Web-2.0-Kultur ist anders. Wie aber macht man das “Andere” greifbar, zum Gegenstand des Management-Verständnisses und von Gestaltungskonzepten? O’Reilly spricht von Prinzipien oder Patterns. Mir persönlich gefällt es, von der DNA des Web 2.0 zu sprechen, denn die 2.0-Wesensmerkmale lassen sich wie Elemente eines Codes kombinieren. Daraus entsteht etwas Lebendiges, nicht im vorhinein völlig Vorhersehbares.

Das in etablierten Märkten meist unverstandene “Andere” kommt in der Theorie der Disruptiven Innovation vor (im Deutschen verwandt mit dem Konzept der Schöpferischen Zerstörung)

Since I started to work with wikis I realised how effective a wiki engine can be to invisibly power a website. In this post I’d like to share some tips on how I do this.

As I contribute to the development of the open source wiki engine I refer to in the following examples, this is obviously my software of choice (hint). There is however a range of excellent free software you can use to this aim (provided they have good ACL support and allow you to easily modify the look and feel of the output via CSS, as I’ll show later).

Let me first clear one major confusion about what wiki software is for. One common misunderstanding about wiki engines is that they can only be used to run actual wikis (or web-based collaborative projects such as the Wikipedia). Wiki engines are, on the contrary, simple and flexible tools for maintaining and managing different kinds of non-wiki websites, without bothering with FTP sessions.

What's also interesting is that these online communities are being fostered in heavy manufacturing types of industries where you'd think that maybe uptake would be slower. Not the case, though.

Ich meine, dass Wissen über Systemtheorie, Komplexität und Managementkybernetik zur Grundausstattung eines jeden Projektmanagers gehören sollte. Zumindest ab einer gewissen Projektgröße und Komplexität.

Sometimes I wonder if business managers are doing themselves a disservice by generalizing group characteristics to help "deal" with demographic change, rather than dealing with the individuals as such.
