I’m a happy wife to Grant and a gentle, work-at-home mom to my sweet children and six babies in Heaven. I am also an independent scholar, historian, published author, and freelance journalist — what is now called a “nontraditional academic.” I like to knit, smock, bead, scrap, read, and, of course, blog.

Brehm Center: creative integration of worship, theology, & arts in culture. - Brehm Center
Founded in 2001, and named after Fuller Seminary Board of Trustee members William and Delores Brehm; the Brehm Center’s mission is to revitalize the church and culture through the arts. We believe that God is the original artist, the first Creator. By engaging expert faculty, world-class artists, and visiting scholars to investigate the theory and practice of making art in ministry, we hope to inspire a new generation of culture-changers for Jesus’ name.
Often described as an “evangelical think tank”, the Brehm Center and its initiatives sponsor research, community outreach, and integrated education in worship, theology and the arts. The Brehm Center does not operate as a separate school at Fuller. Rather, a Brehm Center Emphasis can be pursued in tandem with any current Fuller Seminary Degree program in the schools of Theology, Psychology, or Intercultural Studies.

PhD in Parenting Blog | Annie Urban | ...Exploring the Art And Science of Parenting
Annie has been blogging about the art and science of parenting on the PhD in Parenting Blog since May 2008. She is a social, political and consumer advocate on issues of importance to parents, women and children. She regularly uses her blog as a platform to create awareness and to advocate for change, calling out the government, corporations, media and sometimes other bloggers for positions, policies and actions that threaten the rights and well-being of parents and their children. Annie also writes for the Care2 Causes blog and contributes occasionally at Attachment Parenting International and Moms Rising. She is active on twitter (@phdinparenting) and facebook (
I’m working on my proverbial PhD in Parenting. As someone who has spent a lot of years in a classroom, I learned that sometimes I need to take notes and explain things to others before I can truly master them. I spend a lot of time thinking about and reading about things that will help me to be a better parent, so I decided to start writing about it to with the hopes that more of it will sink in.
Maybe my blog will help others along the way too. Perhaps someone else that is struggling with an issue will read something I wrote and take something away from it. Maybe my husband will read the book reviews since I can’t convince him to read the books. Maybe family and friends will read it and get a better understanding for why we parent the way that we do. Maybe no one will read it, in which case it will just act as my own study guide.
If you feel moved to comment or ask questions, by all means jump in. I enjoy a good conversation. However, I would ask that you be respectful of who I am and my parenting philosophy in doing so.

My name is Mary Jaksch. In July 2008 I became Chief Editor of Write to Done.
Write to Done is a place where we can all grow as writers. It’s a place to share some of what we’ve learned as writers, with new (and experienced) writers looking to improve their craft and their art. That’s what Write To Done is about, at its core: the craft and the art of writing

The Screaming Kettle | a blog by David Nilsen
My name is David, and I’m a 29 year old father and husband living in the small town of Greenville, Ohio. I more or less fit the bill of the trendy Christian bohemian – I love indie rock; I take deep meaning from classic and independent films; I find more encouragement and truth in the writings of Donald Miller and Anne Lamott than John MacArthur or Al Mohler; I hold my theological beliefs with an open hand; I take environmental and social justice issues very seriously (but of course don’t do enough about them). Your dad has never heard of my favorite beer breweries. Etcetera. You probably know the drill.
Recurring characters you will read a lot about here are my pretty-and-witty wife Lyndie and my daughter Yoselin (Yosi), whom we adopted from Guatemala at the age of 8 months in April, 2008.
I currently work a totally unsatisfying job as an I.T. Specialist at a bank, and also sell used and rare books on the side. I hope to make this my full time source of income in the next year or two by opening a brick and mortar shop on the charming downtown main street of our little burg.
I’ve been writing since childhood, and hope to publish a book before I’m too old to be obnoxious about it. I write creative non-fiction, poetry, fiction, and film reviews, though mostly only that first category makes it onto this blog.
I love to hear from readers, so feel free to use any of the following means to get in touch with me!

Stitching up the Seams | on every broken promise that [our bodies] couldn't keep. | Stitching Seams
Stitching Up the Seams was created to help me work through issues created in part by fundamentalist Christianity.
Hi. I’m Stitching Seams. Feel free to call me Stitch – or if you’d rather an actual name that’s still not mine (anonymous blog and all that) you can call me Joanna or Jo.
I’m a 25-year-old wife, daughter, and sister who grew up quite conservatively. While I’ve not left my faith, I’ve experienced sexual, spiritual, mental, and emotional abuse that has affected me to the point that I simply need an outlet where I can systematically explain what happened to me from my perspective.
Please understand. This is my story. My blog. Where my memory is fuzzy, I will say so. I will speak quite poorly of some people, even close friends – not out of anger or bitterness, but out of a proper understanding of their behavior towards me at various times. I am not perfect. I will not gloss over my mistakes, but neither will I apologize for them. I speak plainly, openly, and honestly – a trait that has gotten me into trouble more times than I can count. But I can assure you – with me, what you see and read is exactly what you get.

Brambonius' blog in english | I am a stranger on this planet
who am I? You might call me Brambonius, like some people do (mostly online) but my real name is Bram, and I’m from belgium, a very secular post-catholic little kingdom by the sea in Earope. My religious background is more pentecostal/evangelical, with a interest in all other branches of Christianity, and even more… I’m part of a vineyard Church.
I’m born around the time when John Lennon died, and I’m married and living in Antwerp, in the second-biggest city of Belgium. I like weird music, cooking with wild plants, and meeting people… My blog in Dutch can be found here (, and I also have a bilingual blog about plants and gardening called Hortus Brambonii (
If my English is not perfect, forgive me and keep in mind that I’m not a native speaker.

The Boy with the Thorn in His Side | Musings on Faith, Culture, And Life. | Travis Mamone
I'm not very good at introducing myself, but here is goes. My name is Travis Mamone. I live in Easton, MD. I work at a public library by day, and a freelance writer by night. I've contributed to a number of different websites and publications throughout the years, including Relevant Magazine, Burnside Writers Collective, Indie Ink, and The Upper Room. I also used to co-host the Something Beautiful podcast.
As far as what this blog is all about, well, let me begin by saying what this blog is NOT:
-This blog is NOT a guide to dating, sex (specifically how to avoid it before marriage), and surviving your twenties.
-This blog is NOT a political blog where I try to fit God into a tiny little political box. As far as I know, Jesus is not a liberal, a conservative, a libertarian, an anarchist, a socialist, a capitalist, etc.
-This blog does NOT have any cute cat pictures. I like cats, though.
-This blog is NOT just a "gay Christian blog." As a bisexual man, I do talk about LGBT-related issues a lot. But not in every single post.
So what is The Boy With The Thorn In His Side all about?
This blog is the story of my ever-evolving faith. There are times when God is so clear to me that I can hardly take it, and other times when He doesn't make a darn bit of sense. Either way, I hope you'll join me in my journey, and feel free to share your story with me.
And as far as the title, yes I like the Smiths! But the phrase "The Boy with the Thorn in His Side" more as a reference to the thorn in Paul's flesh. In my weakness, that's when I can feel God's strength the most.

I am a feminist and a member of BGSU’s Organization for Women’s Issues. I am passionate about reconciling my Christian faith with feminism, and about helping to make the church a better place for women everywhere.

Center on Religion and Chinese Society Home Page
The Center on Religion and Chinese Society at Purdue has been established to advance the social scientific study of religion in Chinese societies and among the Chinese in diasporas. Both of the words “Chinese” and “religion” are inclusive here. We are interested in all religions and spiritualities practiced by the Chinese anywhere in the world, and being Chinese in the global era means being cosmopolitan and going beyond existing boundaries. We hope that our research projects and scholarly exchanges will help to deepen scholarly understanding of Chinese religions, and will enhance mutual understanding of Chinese and American peoples. We would like the CRCS to become a bridge – a bridge between scholars at Purdue and scholars in other parts of the United States, a bridge between Chinese and American scholars across the Pacific, and a bridge between scholars and the public through media, symposia, lectures, and publications. We hope CRCS will serve the scholarly community of Chinese religions in the global village.

Home : International Arts Movement
IAM is a movement of people. We are professors, students, practicioners, gallerists, entrepeneurs, clergy, and parents. We seek to serve and inspire anyone committed to working at creative and artistic endeavors large and small in the interest of human flourishing.
We are a grass-roots movement, and as we come to the end of the year, we depend on your grass-roots contributions. Thanks so much for anything you're able to offer, small or large, to the work of the movement.
IAM is a movement dedicated to inspiring all people to engage their culture to create a more good and beautiful world. As a non-profit 501(c)(3), IAM presents lectures, performances, exhibitions, screenings, projects, and workshops. Our programming and resources equip the creative community to generate good, true, and beautiful cultural artifacts: sign-posts pointing toward the “world that ought to be.” Through understanding the culture that is and looking toward what could be, we hope to rehumanize our world.
The world is not as it ought to be. We long for meaningful existence and involvement in our culture - to be part of a story greater than ourselves. Often our reality is a broken and fragmented story in which dignity and value are stripped from humanity. Art and creativity, as universal languages, can begin to address this dehumanization. The world needs artists and visionaries to lead the way in seeing beyond the trivial to the transcendent, bringing synthesis to fragmentation, and hope to despair.

Department of Classics : Reading List : Haverford College
The Majors' Reading List consists of a group of central Greek and Latin texts selected by the faculty, to be read in English (if not in the original) by the beginning of the senior year. Many of these texts will have been assigned in different classes, while others will complement class readings. By reading, considering, and discussing the texts on the list, bi-college Classics students—whatever the focus of their particular major—will emerge with a stronger common basis for discussion and with a better sense of the range and depth of the classical heritage.

Department of Classics : Welcome : Haverford College
Classics is the study of the ancient Greek and Roman world, its cultures, and their impact on later cultural traditions.
"I would make them all learn English: and then I would let the clever ones learn Latin as an honor, and Greek as a Treat." — Sir Winston Churchill
Our evolving understanding of these concepts (e.g. "ancient," “culture,” “Roman”) gives our discipline dynamism, while a common body of texts function as its shared center. While careful study of these texts is vital, the Classicist's inquiry includes all aspects of life and culture in ancient Greek and Latin society, including the areas of history, law, religion, material culture, art, family life, politics, and philosophy. Classics is also interested in how later peoples understood and transformed this inheritance, generating the rich Classical tradition in literature and the other arts.

The Imaginative Conservative
The conservative is concerned, first of all, for the regeneration of spirit and character—with the perennial problem of the inner order of the soul, the restoration of the ethical understanding, and the religious sanction upon which any life worth living is founded. This is conservatism at its highest.--Russell Kirk
We hope you will join us in The Imaginative Conservative community. The Imaginative Conservative is an on-line journal for those who seek the True, the Good and the Beautiful. We address culture, liberal learning, politics, political economy, literature, the arts and the American Republic in the tradition of Russell Kirk, T.S. Eliot, Edmund Burke, Irving Babbitt, Paul Elmer More, Wilhelm Roepke, Robert Nisbet, M.E. Bradford, Christopher Dawson and other leaders of Imaginative Conservatism.

Socrates in the City | "The unexamined life is not worth living"
The Greek philosopher Socrates famously said that "the unexamined life is not worth living." Taking this as a starting point, Eric Metaxas thought it would be valuable to create a forum that might encourage busy and successful professionals in thinking about the bigger questions in life. Thus Socrates In The City: Conversations on the Examined Life was born.
Every month or so Socrates In The City sponsors an event in which people can begin a dialogue on "Life, God, and other small topics" by hearing a notable thinker and writer such as Dr. Francis Collins, Sir John Polkinghorne, Rabbi Sir Jonathan Sacks, N.T. Wright, Os Guinness, Peter Kreeft, or George Weigel. Topics have included "Making Sense Out of Suffering," "The Concept of Evil after 9-11," and "Can a Scientist Pray?" No question is too big—in fact, the bigger the better. These events are meant to be both thought-provoking and entertaining, because nowhere is it written that finding answers to life's biggest questions shouldn't be exciting and even, perhaps, fun.

MARS HILL AUDIO is committed to assisting Christians who desire to move from thoughtless consumption of contemporary culture to a vantage point of thoughtful engagement. We believe that fulfilling the commands to love God and neighbor requires that we pay careful attention to the neighborhood: that is, every sphere of human life where God is either glorified or despised, where neighbors are either edified or undermined.

CIVA | Christians in the Visual Arts
Serious Art. Serious Faith.
Christians in the Visual Arts exists to explore and nurture the relationship between the visual arts and the Christian faith. Founded in 1979, the organization’s longstanding vision is to help artists, arts pastors, collectors, critics, designers, historians, and videographers explore the profound relationship between art and faith. With this as a point of beginning, CIVA’s broad range of conferences, exhibits, programs, and publications exists to help the art and faith movement flourish both in the Church and in culture.
CIVA encourages Christians in the visual arts to develop their particular callings to the highest professional level possible; to learn how to deal with specific problems in the field without compromising our faith and our standard of artistic endeavor; to provide opportunities for sharing work and ideas; to foster intelligent understanding, a spirit of trust, and a cooperative relationship between those in the arts, the Church, and culture; and ultimately, to establish a Christian presence within the secular art world.

The Chesterton Review - Seton Hall University, New Jersey
The Chesterton Review, founded in 1974, is the quarterly journal of the G.K. Chesterton Institute for Faith & Culture and has been widely praised for both its scholarship and the quality of its writing. It was founded to promote an interest in all aspects of Chesterton's life, work, art and ideas, including his Christian apologetics. The Review is published twice annually (two double issues). As the Chesterton revival grown around the world, The Chesterton Review has responded by publishing annual foreign language editions in Spanish, French, Portuguese and Italian.
The G.K. Chesterton Institute for Faith & Culture, a not-for-profit educational organization incorporated in the United States, Canada and Great Britain, is located at Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey. The purpose of the Institute is to promote the thought of G.K. Chesterton and his circle and, more broadly, to explore the application of Chestertonian ideas in the contemporary world. Chesterton's call for a deepened moral and social imagination speaks loudly to the cultural crises of our own time.

Imaginatio et Ratio | A Journal of Theology and the Arts
Imaginatio et Ratio is a peer reviewed journal primarily focusing on the intersection between the arts and theology, hoping to allow imagination and reason to be seen as intimately intertwined–as different expressions of the same divine truth. Imaginatio et Ratio was started in the hopes that it could serve a growing community of artists and thinkers and strives to present accessible but high quality art, literary fiction, creative non-fiction, and theology/philosophy–as well as interviews and book, film, art and music reviews. The journal is published twice a year and is available in print and digital formats.

Religion and the Arts - Boston College
Religion and the Arts seeks to explore religious experience and expression in the verbal, visual and performing arts, in the context of contemporary theory and culture. While there exists a rich and varied scholarship on the religious dimension in the arts, Religion and the Arts encourages the development of new religious critical discourses, in order to explore neglected dimensions of works of art, and open up new possibilities for the field.
