The left Hand of Darkness: The end and the way by lupinely
Summary: At the end of his life, retired Stabile of the Ekumen Genly Ai shares a part of his story on Gethen that he never told.
Reccer's Notes: Left Hand was published in 1969, and at the time it was written it's take on gender was groundbreaking... Yet Le Guin herself once told that she wouldn't have written it quite the same way if she had known our current conceptions of gender and sexuality, where the mere idea of gender-fluidity and neutral pronouns is at least known as a possibility. This fic do the necessary work of bridging the two with great respect and love for the original book.

Author rec: melannen (multifandom)
Reccer's Notes: I love melannen's stories. I never quite know what fandom she's going to write for next, but I do know that whatever it is I'll enjoy it even if I know nothing about the fandom. She doesn't tend to write long fics, but the fics she does write are wonderful. I particularly like her deft handling of characters with alternate sexualities, and her way with crossovers. She has a gift for finding unique angles on characters and canons and making them come to life. Also, she knows the most fascinating random things ever, and sprinkles them through her fics with a deft hand.

Merlin/Ursula le Guin -- The Birthday of the World: An Ever-Fixed Mark by imperfectcircle
Summary: "Fusion with Ursula le Guin's planet O. In a world with very different marriage rules, a noble wedding and a magical threat still can't make Merlin, Arthur, Gwen and Morgana talk about their feelings."
Reccer's Notes: This story fuses the world of Merlin with a society where poly marriage is the norm. The marriage plot is entwined with a plot using the Merlin canon magic very skillfully. The overall tone is a little more formal than Merlin is, but the characterizations (season one era) are spot on. Lovely story, and no real need to know the le Guin canon to enjoy it.
