skygiants | Anna Cowan's Untamed
Apparently Anna Cowan's Untamed was Controversial in the Romance Novel Community, and to be honest the plot was total nonsense but I'm not gonna lie, I enjoyed the hell and a half out of it.

Strange Horizons Columns: Intertitles: Gods of Egypt: A Three-Act Tragedy, by Genevieve Valentine
To watch the trailer for Gods of Egypt is to be that person in a horror movie standing by as their travel companions wander off to investigate those strange noises all alone. Even those two minutes of footage seem palpably abashed; the film knows it's required to show off its CGI architecture and dutifully present two bellicose brothers, but nobody—onscreen or off—takes any joy in it.

Obsidian Wings: The Superhero Men Don't See: Evidence
But when I started looking at reviews outside my corner of fandom, I found something Ian Grey of PressPlay also noticed:

Two parallel realities! Men who see nobody at all and women who see the next Faith (without the crazy, I mean). Don’t tell Disney, or they’ll be marketing the film as 4-D.

Being me, I decided to gather data, not just examples.

Asking the Wrong Questions: Stargate: Universe, Season 1
I kept watching SG-1 and Atlantis despite all these flaws because their modest ambitions suited the level of talent driving them--they were never great TV, but they were occasionally entertaining and that, coupled with inertia, was enough to keep me coming back. Universe aims higher, but the same talent is at the helm and it's not up to the task, and I find myself with no reason to keep watching--after all, for all its aping of Battlestar Galactica, Universe isn't as culturally important, and now that it's moved to the fall there's plenty of other stuff to watch instead
