rushthatspeaks | wait, what was that call number
Did I ever tell you all about the time I read the Necronomicon in a reference library? I must have done, because it's a story I tell because it's amazing and kind of hilarious, but I don't seem to be able to find anywhere on this journal I've told it, so maybe I haven't.

rushthatspeaks: it's hard out there for a kit
Usually, our two cats do not give us much in the way of sturm und drang when they have to go to the vet. Usually, this is because at least one of them is not feeling terribly well. Today, they had a well-cat visit, and I was not able to help Ruth wrangle them because I had a conflicting appointment for which I was leaving the house slightly earlier and in the opposite direction. In future, we may wish to consider well-cat visits as a separate taxonomic classification,

rushthatspeaks | Horace Gerstenblut n'existe pas, or, why Daniel Pinkwater is the greatest living Surrealist
It was not until quite recently, however, that I noticed that Pinkwater is actually a capital-S Surrealist, by which I mean that he is intentionally and with forethought following the artistic and literary principles established by André Breton and his circle in Paris in the 1920s as part of the Surrealist movement, and that he is alluding in his body of work to the Surrealists and their intellectual ideas.

rushthatspeaks | the way upward and the way downward are the same
I have been trying to think what I can say or do in memoriam, in tribute. The best thing I can think of is that in 2007 I started to write an essay to explain the end of Fire and Hemlock, because a lot of people find it confusing; the essay was meant to have two parts, and I never managed to write the second... And here, now, now-here, is the second part.

rushthatspeaks: Translations
Here's the first set of my translations of the position descriptions from that Sui Dynasty sex manual (helpfully Latinized, as you may recall, by the author of the work on sex in ancient China that [info]telophase has been reading).
