rushthatspeaks | wait, what was that call number
Did I ever tell you all about the time I read the Necronomicon in a reference library? I must have done, because it's a story I tell because it's amazing and kind of hilarious, but I don't seem to be able to find anywhere on this journal I've told it, so maybe I haven't.

egelantier: and count every beautiful thing we can see
but i should probably add, non-spoilerly, that the world is sort of on the... fluffy? side? not in the sense of solid worldbuilding -- that was actually very well done -- but in the sense of tone. like, addison/monette apparently explicitly set out to write clair as opposed to noir, so it's a world where a lot of the characters are good and can be won over by goodness

(apparently clair vs. noir distinction belongs to addison - truepenny herself, as pertaining to goblin emperor writing process, but as it's something i always wanted to formulate and couldn't, i'm stealing it with all due respect).

utsusemia: Gay YA: a question of intent
Systemic issues in publishing, not necessarily due to overt or even subtle homophobia on the part of any one person, still at every level of the process prevent YA with queer main and secondary characters from being published, and being supported when published.

I have numbers! Stats on LGBT Young Adult Books Published in the U.S. – Updated 9/15/11
On Monday I noted that in light of this post from two authors who were asked by an agent to de-gay their book, I was planning to do some statistics wrangling and see if I could quantify some of what’s happening in LGBT YA publishing.

bookshop: Bad Romance (or, YA & Rape Culture)
Hush, Hush is the story of a Bad Romance: quite literally, the heroine is caught in a bad romance with a stalker who shows up, will not leave her alone, refuses to leave her life, and tries to kill her. All of this is made acceptable by the fact that he's hot.

What are the first appearances of soulbonds* in SF/F?

Because I'm pretty sure fandom didn't invent this trope.
