Artist residency portal.

"We are an association of over 650 centers, organisations, and individuals in over 70 countries. Each of our members is dedicated to offering artists, curators, and all manner of creative people the essential time and place away from the pressures and habits of every-day life, an experience framed within a unique geographic and cultural context.

Through Res Artis, organisations become part of a global community of colleagues engaged in dialogue through our face-to-face meetings and virtually through our online presence.

Those interested in attending a residency can use the information and resources on our website, gaining insights into the profiles of our members and staying informed about their events and application deadlines.

Since 1993, through the volunteer efforts of the Board of Directors, dedicated staff and countless partners and friends, Res Artis has grown to become the largest network of its kind, promoting the role of residential art programs as a vital part of the contemporary arts world, stimulating the creative development and mobility of artists, and furthering intercultural understanding."

Fueling Open Source Innovation and Sustainability - CommunityBridge
"CommunityBridge is a platform created by the Linux Foundation (LF) to empower developers — and the individuals and organizations who support them — to advance sustainability, security, and diversity in open source technology."

One of its main purpose is to help with funding. It includes some security-related services and a means for connecting developers with mentors.

Statement (https://sfconservancy.org/blog/2019/mar/13/lf-community-bridge/) from the Software Freedom Conservancy on this new initiative:

1. It's closed-source, shall make it open-source (FOSS)

2. No charitable tax deduction and unsafe governance (LF is not a charity, but a trade association — designed to serve the common business interest of its paid members, who control its Board of Directors)

3. LF's system is similar to Patreon and other platforms in that it is a hands-off system that takes a cut of the money and provides minimal financial services.

SFC's conclusion:
"This new LF system is probably just right for FOSS projects that (a) prefer to use single-point-of-failure, proprietary software rather than FOSS for their infrastructure, (b) do not want to operate in a way that is dedicated to the public good, and (c) have very minimal fiscal sponsorship needs, such as occasional reimbursements of project expenses."

"Software in the Public Interest is a non-profit organization which was founded to help organizations develop and distribute open hardware and software. Our mission is to help genuine, substantial, and significant FOSS (free and open source software) projects by handling their non-technical administrative tasks so that they aren't required to operate their own legal entity.
SPI acts as a fiscal sponsor to many free and open source projects.
We encourage programmers to use the GNU General Public License or other licenses that allow free redistribution and use of software and hardware developers to distribute documentation that will allow device drivers to be written for their product."

"Kiva is an international nonprofit, founded in 2005 and based in San Francisco, with a mission to connect people through lending to alleviate poverty. We celebrate and support people looking to create a better future for themselves, their families and their communities.

By lending as little as $25 on Kiva, anyone can help a borrower start or grow a business, go to school, access clean energy or realize their potential. For some, it’s a matter of survival, for others it’s the fuel for a life-long ambition.

100% of every dollar you lend on Kiva goes to funding loans. Kiva covers costs primarily through optional donations, as well as through support from grants and sponsors."

Offices in also in Bangkok, Nairobi and Portland.

Solution Search - Promoting Change in Conservation
Using a competition approach with prizes / grants as reward.

"Solutions to some of the world’s greatest conservation and development challenges exist in local communities around the globe. Many times, however, these solutions remain on the local level and go unnoticed by the larger community. What’s already working must be surfaced and spotlighted such that practitioners around with world can expand their impact as they replicate proven success. Solution Search, an innovative contest created by Rare, is designed to do just that. The contest sources, rewards and disseminates what is already working in conservation and development."

Powered by RARE Foundation, whose major backer is textile fast fashion company C&A.

Shuttleworth Foundation
"Social investor that provides funding to dynamic leaders who are at the forefront of social change. We look for social innovators who are helping to change the world for the better and could benefit from a social investment model with a difference. We identify amazing people, give them a fellowship grant, and multiply the money they put into their own projects by a factor of ten or more.

Our ideal future is one where it is much easier to find solutions to social challenges in a global open knowledge society with unhindered access to essential information and limitless opportunities for innovation and replication. Knowledge is open if it is free to use, reuse and redistribute without legal, social or technological restriction. In this sense an open knowledge society is one in which a superset of open data, open content, open access and open source is available to all."

Inside The Fashion Incubator That’s Hacking Global Manufacturing
One of the more progressive fashion incubator projects. In Brooklyn, New York. Excerpt: "This is a new typology for an office, there aren't many manufacturing spaces that are designed, ... ; it has the components of incubator space, labs, and offices." "The secret to taking these experiments to market is inclusivity. This can't be done over the heads of the industry, because the real commodity in fashion is ultimately relationships with suppliers and manufacturers. ... I’ve seen startups try to do it without cooperating with traditional fashion and manufacturing, but so far they aren't successful." "Funding will also be done cooperatively, through a public-private partnership and an SBA Growth Accelerator Fund grant which is the beginning of an ongoing financial relationship." "... middle class jobs that will integrate traditional, artisanal fabrication techniques with technology and embedded sustainability practices." HAG

Das Motto der Nonprofits: Gutes tun statt Gewinn maximieren – (wie) funktioniert das?
NPO's become more important because they take over more and more roles of the governments. This interview reviews 3 books regarding the NPO-World; from NPO-Management to foundation to public involvement.

1. More Than Just Money, Allen J. Proctor, LMM Press, 2010
«While money is important to survival, nonprofit success is about more than just money.»

2. Getting Your Share of the Pie, Valerie J. Mann, Praeger, 2010
«What counts with grant reviewers is a simple, direct statement of the facts.»

3. Small Change, Michael Edwards, Berrett-Koehler, 2010
«If you wait to tackle injustice and discrimination until everyone has more assets, it will be too late.»

HK Research Institute of Textile and Apparel - Project Database
If we were a HK company, we could apply at this institute for a joint-project with a HK textile institute to apply for a research & development grant for up to 90%.

This bookmark shows the current R&D project database, maybe we could become one if we can prove that we are researching something truly innovative.
