In August Giridharadas released Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World, which is a journalistic look at a culture of privatized change-making, where un-elected elites — unmarred by the messiness of democracy — try to tinker with problems they likely had a hand in causing.

'Reagan Democrats' Are a Myth as Working-Class Support Democrats Over Trump | US News Opinion
This is not to say that anyone's concerns should be ignored – quite the contrary. If what working-class white men want is economic policies that help them, like unions, Medicaid expansion and Hillary's proposals for coal country, that's great. But if what working-class white voters want is a Muslim ban and to blame black and brown people for their life's difficulties, that's not something we should entertain or excuse. Appeasing racism under the guise of populism is not only pointless, it takes us backwards. It is an insult to millions of Americans, our national ideals and our very moral fabric as a nation of immigrants. E Pluribus Unum. Out of many, One.
