Kelly DB
Kelly is a project in the EU Lifelong Learning Programme which is preparing word cards for learners of nine languages, whose mother tongue might be any of those nine languages. It has used corpora for identifying the words to be included for each language. Professional translators provided the translations and the results are in the database, accessible here.

The UDC Summary database contains over 2,600 UDC classes with the following fields that contain text: caption, including notes, scope note, application note, examples. The classification is, however, suitable for use as soon as the complete set of captions (i.e. class description) is translated.

UDC Summary is a carefully chosen set of classes that represent an up to date version of UDC. It used by libraries and library schools world-wide for training and indexing. We invite colleagues interested in translating the UDC Summary into their national languages to contact udcs@udcc.org.

Online Language Dictionaries and Translators
Language Dictionaries and Translators

"Breaking the barriers of language through learning"

Word2Word is pleased to provide these dictionary links in the hope of all people developing a better understanding of others through the use of language. We have attempted to place as many online dictionaries at your disposal as possible. We prefer that they have a searchable index but we will not exclude a dictionary for failing to have one. If the dictionary only translates from one language to another you will see this - > to indicate which language is being translated from with the arrow pointing to which language is being translated to. If the translation can be made both ways then you will see < - > and if the dictionary is non-searchable it will have - without any arrows. Please note that some of the dictionaries may require your browser to have the ability to read the language being translated to. If you are a business and would like to be a sponsor of this site or you find any bad links or new useful links then please contact us from the appropriate address on our How To Contact Us webpage.

Accueil du dico des épices - Dictionary of herbs and Spices

Bonne visite !

WordGumbo | Free online dictionary | Online encyclopedia of languages
A ‘gumbo’ is a spicy okra-based stew, it also means a particular kind of mud; it is one of the few Bantu (African) words that has become part of the English language, itself a gumbo of a language.

The site is primarily an archive of public domain and redistributable language learning resources. We are also developing special content for the site which will be of interest to language learners, travelers, linguists, and other language aficionados.

There are many sites on the Internet with interactive dictionaries and language learning aids; there are also several freeware dictionary/flashcard programs with extensive vocabulary sets. However, in most cases, these sites shroud their data sets in binary or database formats. At Wordgumbo we’ve done the hard work of converting these data sets into flat files and posting them in one convenient archive, organized by language family.

Files here are either HTML or extended (8-bit) ASCII. Where possible, text files are tab delimited. Some files have been converted into standard HTML encoding (ISO-8859-1) from Unicode. The closest equivalent character in ISO-8859-1 was selected, and any diacritics simulated using and and the closest equivalent punctuation mark. In the case of Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew, a consistent transliteration scheme was used. The source for each file contains hidden tags which specify the Unicode value for each character which has no ISO-8859-1 equivalent. To obtain these values, you can download the file or view its source in your browser. The tags have the form <!u XXXX>character</!u>, where XXXX is the four digit hexadecimal value of the Unicode character.

Some of the material on this site may be copyrighted; we ask that you respect these copyrights by only using it for academic ‘fair use’. This includes files labled as ‘freeware data’. Files which are copyrighted will be clearly indicated as such. Commercial use of the copyrighted material at this site may be restricted. Other files are clearly in the public domain and can be used for any purpose. These files will be identified as such.

We encourage you to visit our sister site The Internet Sacred Text Archive (www.sacred-texts.com), which has a comprehensive collection of public domain religious texts. We have provided cross-links to related content at sacred-texts where relevant.

Glottopedia
Glottopedia is a freely editable encyclopedia for linguists by linguists that is currently being built up. It will contain dictionary articles on all technical terms of linguistics and is multilingual. In addition, there are survey articles, biographical articles and language articles, potentially on all linguists and all languages.
Glottopedia articles also exist in German, Spanish, Italian, French, Russian, Danish, Swedish, Chinese, Japanese, Norwegian (Nynorsk), and in the future hopefully also in many other languages.
Glottopedia needs your contribution!
