App Store Year Zero: How unsweetened web apps and unsigned code drove the iPhone to an SDK | iMore
Apple introduced the App Store on July 10, 2008. Over the course of the next week we're going to take a look back at the origins and development of App Store, and forward towards its potential future. To do that properly, however, we have to start at the beginning, with the original iPhone in 2007. And with the original iPhone, there was no App Store, and no third party apps. At least not at first...

It's Apple's Sandbox, Developers Just Play In It
Despite a number of cogent arguments against it, Apple is going through with the requirement for apps in the Mac App Store to be sandboxed. A number of Mac developers have already spoken up about the policy, but Apple's going through with it anyway. Initially set to go into effect this month, A...

Custom Feeds - Palm Developer Center
"Palm provides a public listing of all third-party applications and related metadata. This includes apps distributed via Web Distribution, the Palm App Catalog, and Beta Applications. These feeds are intended to facilitate the emergence of community directories of Palm webOS applications, such as the ones available at PreCentral and FreshMeat.

This article outlines the feeds and provides details on how to effectively consume them. "

Apple’s Cool Matrix-Style App Wall
"Check out the pictures below and watch the video. It reminded me a bit of the lines of code falling down that the crew of the Nebuchadnezzar would see when trying to look into the The Matrix — only with fart apps."

Apple Rejects EFF Updates App, Claims Parody Content Is Objectionable | Electronic Frontier Foundation
"Let's be clear: we are not saying that Apple has to carry apps it doesn't like in its App Store. But iPhone owners who don't want Apple playing the role of language police for their software should have the freedom to go elsewhere. This is precisely why EFF has asked the Copyright Office to grant an exemption to the DMCA for jailbreaking iPhones. It's none of Apple's business if I want an app on my phone that lets me read EFF's RSS feed, use Sling Player over 3G, or read the Kama Sutra."

Whither Eucalyptus? - Jamie’s Web Log
"If you’re wondering why Eucalyptus is not yet available, it’s currently in the state of being ‘rejected’ for distribution on the iPhone App Store. This is due to the fact that it’s possible, after explicitly searching for them, to find, download from the Internet, and then read texts that Apple deems ‘objectionable’. The example they have given me is a Victorian text-only translation of the Kama Sutra of Vatsyayana. "

No Opera Mini for the iPhone | Hardware 2.0 |
Yikes. This is really making me hope that Android or Palm linux phones grow up fast. "It seems that the engineers at Opera developed a version of Opera Mini that would run on the iPhone (and the iPod touch), but this browser will never see light of day because Apple rejected it from the App Store."
