scottishparliament - great scots throught the ages
This site looks little underwhelming. Not sure if this is accurate, but at least it's a lead to research further ............................................. "ALexander graham bell was the man who invented the telephone. He done it with wires and found out it was now famous. He also hated his invention. He was born in March 3rd 1847 and died in august 2nd 1922 " .................................. Although this other site (again, underwhelming) says "Alexander Graham Bell refused to have telephones around his summer home in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. He hated his own invention for its intrusiveness" http://forums.applecentral.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/1099/It's_The_Little_Things...(rant

From “phreaks” to Apple: Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak’s “eureka!” moment - Salon.com
books-to-buy = This article was excerpted from "Exploding the Phone: The Untold Story of the Teenagers and Outlaws Who Hacked Ma Bell" "Their sales technique was inspired. They would knock on random dorm room doors and ask for an imaginary person with a made-up name. When the confused occupant would respond “Who?” they would say, “You know, the guy who makes all the free phone calls.” Depending on the occupant’s reaction they might add, “You know, he has the blue boxes.” If the person they were talking to lit up and got excited, they knew they had a solid sales prospect who wasn’t likely to turn them in."

866-887-8317 / 8668878317 - Getting off robo-caller spam lists
"Record the out of service tone at the beginning of you answering machine message. The pause 3 seconds before your regular message. The robo-dialer will then note that your number is not in service and delete it from it's database. It will take a few weeks to allow all the robo-dialers to check in.
So any call from a number that you don't recognize, just let it go to voice mail. The following is a .wav file for an invalid number SIT tone: errorbeeps1.wav (15k), from www.thisisarecording.com"  <---- NOTE: This website no longer works, but just look for a SIT tone and the rest of the tip will work.

apple, history-computer = "Phone freaking was an early passion for Apple founders Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Before they revolutionized the personal computer, the pair built “blue boxes” that allowed users to make long distance calls free of charge. “If we hadn’t made blue boxes, there would have been no Apple,” Jobs said in an interview."
