George Carlin Image Quotation #5 - QuotesSays . COM
"If it's true that we are all from the center of a star, every atom in each of us from the center of a star, then we're all the same thing. Even a Coke machine or a cigarette butt in the street in Buffalo, is made out of atoms that came from a star. They've all been recycled thousands of times, as have you and I. And therefore, it's only me out there, so what is there to be afraid of? What is there that needs solace seeking? Nothing. There is nothing to be afraid of because it's all us. The trouble is we have been separated by being born and given a name and an identity and being individuated. We have been separated from the oneness and that's what religion exploits, that people have this yearning to be part of the overall once again. So they explot that. They call it god and they say he has rules and I think that's cruel. I think you can do it absent religion." - George Carlin

NASA gets two military spy telescopes for astronomy - The Washington Post
A shame that so much money is wasted on spying - essentially "useless" activities in the sense that they do not increase the knowledge of humanity as a whole.

The surprise announcement Monday is a reminder that NASA isn’t the only space enterprise in the government — and isn’t even the best funded. NASA official Michael Moore gave some hint of what a Hubble-class space telescope might do if used for national security:

“With a Hubble here you could see a dime sitting on top of the Washington Monument.”

BBC News - 'No signal' from targeted ET hunt
"Consider the fact that you could've looked at the Earth for four billion years with radio antennas - here was a planet that's clearly in the habitable zone, has liquid oceans, and has an atmosphere - and yet unless you had looked in the last 70 years and were close enough, you wouldn't have found any intelligent life," he said.

Elon Musk's determination by Dustin Curtis
personal-development = I always lived by the saying "It's not over till the fat lady sings." Most people tend to look at life episodically and believe that a failure is a failure... as opposed to the Edison way of thinking which is that a failure is just a step to success... STEP being the operative word... if you stop at a failure... it remains a failure. If you continue and find another way, it becomes a step on the way to success.

persistence = I thought I had this tag before, but evidently I didn't... so I'm creating it now.

5 Horrifying Facts You Didn't Know About the Space Shuttle - Forbes
"Dragon and its commercial brethren are certainly feats of engineering. Despite that, the core difference between these vehicles and the Shuttle is not technical: it’s conceptual. What truly makes them different is that they are designed to be profitable commercial vehicles, built with commercially sourced components from a private enterprise supply chain and with paying customers. Including NASA.

Instead of building its own spacecraft, NASA will off-load the business of transit to and from space to the private sector, which can now do it better and cheaper, while the space agency can get back to doing what it does best—pushing the frontiers of science and the exploration of space.

Best of all, these new vehicles will eventually become cheaper through demand and competition, which means that I can expect to fly in space at some point in my lifetime. And so can you."

Deep Space Marvels - Life | LocateTV
The Science channel has a series called "Deep Space Marvels"--- I watched this episode called "Life" that talks about how stars explode and the detritus from that explosion mixes with "space clouds" and eventually falls under gravity and creates new planets and new life.

Conclusion: nothing is ever created or destroyed... only changed in form. I guess that is what happens to us also when we die.

Also just saw an episode called "Destiny" which talks about how we're going to have to leave earth at some point. About 35 minutes into the episode, there's a NASA scientist (Mark Ramen) who is one of the few white nerdy guys I've seen in these documentaries. He even references Star Trek.
