maps = Not really a map, but it'll help me find it.

This kind of goes hand in hand with the link I just bookmarked right before this with the same tags (https://www.timeanddate.com/time/map/)

How the West Is Owned | Big Think
"Many thanks to Jonathan Leblang and Adam Hahn for signaling this map, which appeared as an illustration to ‘Can the West Lead Us To A Better Place?‘[1], an article in Stanford Magazine, a periodical for and about alumni from that university. Update: the map can be found in higher resolution – and with a long, long comments section – here [2] on Reddit. ............. The rise of OpenStreetMap: A quest to conquer Google’s mapping empire - The Next Web
time, standards = " “In the 1800s, people were struggling with time – not how much of it they had, but what time it was,” he says. “Clocks existed, but every town had its own time – ‘Local Time’ – which was synchronized by town clocks or, more often than not, church bells. Railway time, then Greenwich Mean Time [GMT] eventually supplanted all local time, and most people today don’t think about time as anything but universal.”"

Where Would You Live on This Map of the Internet?
This "standing-out-or-differentiating-by-content" example is a bit weaker than the rest, because it kind of doesn't solve any pressing problems. Most of the others ones are solving issues that people had, but no one had stepped up to solve. This is a bit more of an art project, but I can still see him getting views and possibly job offers.

The Hum
"Most people come to this site because they have searched for information on a strange humming or rumbling sound whose source they cannot find. Many of them are surprised to find out that they are not alone and that they are experiencing a worldwide phenomenon that scientists and the public call the Hum. This is the same famous Hum that has afflicted residents of Bristol, England; Taos, New Mexico; Kokomo, Indiana, and Windsor, Ontario. The classic description of the Hum is that of a truck engine idling outside one’s home. Some describe it as a low throbbing drone or deep bass note. The noise is usually louder indoors than outdoors, and louder at night. If you are not sure if you are hearing The Hum, do not enter data until you have taken a few moments to read this. This is an open-source scientific study about The Hum, and not a place to complain about noises that have obvious pinpoint sources, such as loud music, metallic sounds from a wrecking yard, etc."

TIL that the world map that we are all familiar with is actually proportionally inaccurate and the real world looks much different. For example Africa is actually so large that it can fit the United States, China, India, Japan, UK, Eastern Europe and 6 o
culture, society = The Euro-centric Mercator map makes Western society's landmasses look comparable in size to Africa and even South America. But Africa is so large that it could actually fit the US, China, India, Europe, Japan inside it. Similarly, Alaska looks huge compared to Mexico, but it's far from it. ................ Make sure to read the comments on this page and also click through to the linked page (http://www.whydontyoutrythis.com/2013/04/the-true-size-of-africa-erroneous-map.html) and view the video.

Paste a bunch of addresses in bulk and have them plotted on a map. No routing, but at least you can see clusters. Doesn't seem to be a limit on number of rows you can import. I did 213 so far with no limitations.

XFINITY WiFi
Evidently, Comcast has partnered with Cablevision, Cox, Time Warner and others to have nation wide Wifi coverage. Just look for the "CableWiFi" access point:

https://corporate.comcast.com/news-information/news-feed/cablewifi-alliance-offers-access-to-more-than-150000-wifi-hotspots-creates-largest-wifi-network-in-the-u-s-2

I have noticed problems connecting to Optonline hotspots, so in searching online, I found this comment:
-------> "I found that on other wifi (xfinity, etc) adding @optimum.net to my username would fix most login issues."
(it's the last comment on this page:
