Manage Google Voice & Audio Activity - Computer - Google Search Help
You can listen to every voice command you have issued to your Google phone.

Filed under big-brother because it can be scary to go back and listen to your voice for things you thought were just issuing commands -- not being recorded.

How to Transfer SMS Messages from One Android Phone to Another
I read through this quickly and it only works if you have the old phone (with the SMS history) and the new phone together at the same time on the same WiFi network (will not work over cellular.)

That would work for most people, but I don't like the fact that this doesn't let me regularly back up my SMS messages, it only lets me back up and restore at the same time. This assumes that my phone will never get stolen or die. If either of those happens, I'm dead in the water.

NOTE: See the other bookmark "How to Back Up Your Text Messages to Your Gmail Account" which is much more my style.

Tasker for Android
Alex introduced me to this app. I had this idea, starting with an app that would turn your WiFi on when you are home and turn it off when you leave, followed by an app that would make your alarms loud when you're at home and softer when you're in public. .... App description---> "Tasker is an application for Android which performs tasks (sets of actions) based on contexts (application, time, date, location, event, gesture) in user-defined profiles or in clickable or timer home screen widgets. Unmerging Two Contacts on Android | Jeremy B. Shapiro's Blog
I had this problem with Testa and his wife's contact info. On my phone, you have to hit the MENU button to edit the contact and then when you're in edit mode, hit MENU (the 3 horizontal lines) to get an additional dialogue to SEPARATE the contacts.

The Always Up-To-Date Guide to Rooting the Most Popular Android Phones
This is kind of a general guide, so don't expect to learn how to root a particular phone from this. Instead, skip to the "Glossary of Rooting Terms"... by reading these, you can get a slightly better picture of the different parts of the software stack and how the hacking of each part comes together into completely rooting the phone.

How Rooting Works — A Technical Explanation of the Android Rooting Process
I have always been curious how rooting actually worked behind the scenes. After recently acquiring a new Eee Pad Slider, a Honeycomb tablet that so far no one has been able to root, the frustration of being locked out of this amazing piece of hardware with so much potential led me to finally sit down and figure out what exactly rooting means, what it entails from a technical perspective, and how hackers out in the wild are approaching the rooting of a new device. Although all this information is out there, I have not been able to find a good [...]

Cryptographic egg-on-Facebook, and on Google Calendar, too | Naked Security
"You can read up his results in detail on his own blog - he and his class did the work, after all - but two specific observations stand out:

* Even though he had turned on full-time HTTPS (SSL) in his Facebook profile, Facebook's Android app didn't bother with the secure connection except for the login part. Everything else was in the clear.

* Google didn't encrypt traffic to its own Google Calendar service from its own Android OS, although it did encrypt traffic to other Google services."

Android PPTP VPN Tutorial | StrongVPN.com
As per support chat on 7/1/2011:
Valera (VPN Support) has joinedYou are currently being served
you are using OpenVPN package now
openvpn will work only on "rooted" android devices
See our tutorial: http://strongvpn.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=1622

If your device is not rooted, you can change your server type to PPTP.

However, some ISPs block PPTP, whereas OpenVPN will work anywhere (that is probably why it was recommended to you originally.)

To change your server type you can login to the customer area with your billing email and password at https://secure.reliablehosting.com/services/intranet/ , then go into "VPN Accounts Summary" (left hand side) and click "change server" link near vpn account.
Then select new PPTP server ( left column )and press button to apply server change.
!!! Please notice, after each switch you should receive new account details - username, password and servername (only for pptp ) or download link for new config files (for openvpn).

How to display wifi IP address - Android Forums
I was trying to find ways to get the IP address of the phone through the command line. Seems it's very tough, but the last post on the page, by C0deM0nkey recommends a freaking incredible app: Network Info II. It not only gives the phone's internal IP address, but also the "external" (internet-facing IP address)

I've bookmarked this because the 2nd app he recommends (Network Mapper) seems interesting, but I don't have a need for it yet.

ROI: The $200 Tablet Computer - WSJ.com
The first is that Barnes & Noble needs to get the lead out and let people run these applications on the Nook Color without having to jail-break it. Obviously they want to block Amazon's Kindle app, because they want customers to buy books from BarnesandNoble.com. But why block everything else? Why should I have to invalidate the warranty in order to make their product more attractive?
