I have been reading some bizarre (although entertaining) statements about the spine via the good old "grapevine" we call Facebook. I am always amazed how much strength the "straight spine is a strong spine" mantra still has. If we are to make any sense of this "debate", we need to attempt to remove as much subjectivity from the discussion as possible...this means take a step back and get a broader perspective from an evolutionary standpoint. In other words, "loads, loading, high impact, etc..." are secondary variables because they are DERIVED from evolutionary ........... " If the spine needs to be "neutral" or fixed during movement...why is it engineered with an inordinate amount of articular displacement and potential?"

Monkey Vault Vs. Kong Vault - YouTube
They are basically the same, but Monkey Vaults are for going over shorter obstacles (a fence, a crate) and Kong Vaults are for going over longer obstacles (i.e. a lengthwise picnic table)

At 1:50 is a key point: jump up with your legs, but your torso should be basically horizontal at the top of the jump. Then pull yourself through with your arms. I was making the mistake of trying to swing my legs underneath my body, in effect keeping my body horizontal.
