Nestlé Makes Billions Bottling Water It Pays Nearly Nothing For - Bloomberg
They externalize all risk (tax breaks from municipalities, sucking water away from the local residents while paying nearly nothing, putting tons of plastic out into the world) and they privatize all profit. It's disgusting.

Facebook has a Big Tobacco Problem – Monday Note
Wow, so far I have seen first hand the instances in which industry has not only failed to admit the damage that their product does, but has actively put out propaganda to stifle the idea (list below) and now Facebook is headed straight into that territory.
- sugar industry
- hydrogenated oil industry / heart disease
- oil industry / climate change
- gun industry / gun violence
- auto industry / leaded fuels
- Dupot / teflon fumes-

other industries I haven't studied enough:
- fracking / earthquakes and environmental damage
- gambling industry / gambling addicts
- payday loan industry / poor people

I think the only instance I have heard of (not studied) where an industry just admitted freely that their product does damage is the alcohol industry - and they're still doing fine! Makes you wonder why these assholes would fight so much rather than just admit it and admit they're happy sucking the life out of people.

Palmco must pay $4.5M over high energy bills
I see settlements like this all the time:

"As part of the settlement, the companies did not admit any liability or wrongdoing. In a statement, Palmco said the company is a family-owned business "committed to quality customer service."

What the fuck? I hate that companies are allowed to spew this bullshit. It's right there in black and white: they ripped of their customers. They have to revise their whole business process and training procedures because they were setting predators loose on the gullible and elderly. But they get to say that they're settling because they want to focus on bullshit, bullshit, bullshit? Fuck that. Execute the owner/president/CEO/chairman and that shit will stop right quick. I hate this fucking "money trumps all" country we live in. Japan has it right. If your corporation pollutes the environment, the CEO is liable for the death penalty.

Netflix once loved talking about net neutrality - so why has it suddenly gone quiet? : technology
Typical capitalist behavior: "My problem's solved. I'm not worrying about that shit." - although someone in the comments posted a Netflix Twitter post from earlier this year that says they're fighting the FCC.
Someone else in the comments said: "OP just copied/pasted a link.

ibtimes.co.uk though....they're the clickbait culprit."

"Netflix once fought fiercely for net neutrality, fearing that its online video service would suffer if internet providers were free to discriminate against it. But now that it boasts one of television's largest audiences, Netflix is not spending much time worrying about the demise of the government rules that once protected it.

With millions of subscribers still flocking to its service, Netflix figures that internet providers are unlikely to do anything that might alienate large numbers of their own customers who also turn to Netflix for trendy shows such as Stranger Things, The Crown and Black Mirror."

Did you know that 99% of women lose money in MLMs? Why Are They Still Signing Up? | Momming Hard
"Quartz reports that women are encouraged by LLR leaders to take out a credit card while some start a GoFundMe in order to pay for their initial order. And they’re doing it, because they’re desperate. The real crime at the end of the day is companies taking advantage of people who truly need money while making most of the profits themselves. Once they’ve gotten a new consultant to spend her first $5,000, they’ve already made their money."

House flippers triggered the US housing market crash, not poor subprime borrowers, a new study shows. — Quartz
"Mounting evidence suggests that the notion that the 2007 crash happened because people with shoddy credit borrowed to buy houses they couldn’t afford is just plain wrong. The latest comes in a new NBER working paper arguing that it was wealthy or middle-class house-flipping speculators who blew up the bubble to cataclysmic proportions, and then wrecked local housing markets when they defaulted en masse."

Harvard's Sugar Industry Scandal Is Just The Tip Of The Iceberg | Huffington Post
This is related to the recent report that the sugar industry paid Harvard to produce reports saying that sugar was fine, but fat was to blame for the rise in heart disease. The candy and soda industries have done the same.

New device lets Oklahoma cops seize cash without due process
capitalism-greed = "According to a contract obtained by Oklahoma Watch, ERAD Group charges $5,000 for each machine and $1,500 for training on how to use the device — a glorified card reader.

If that wasn’t enough, it also charges a processing fee of 7.7 percent on each transaction. So, if the state seizes $100,000 from a suspected drug dealer, ERAD Group pockets $7,700 in addition to the initial sale, training and any on-going need for maintenance and additional support."

The Great Statin Con? | Dr Aseem Malhotra
From a FB post: "What most people don't realise is that pharmaceutical companies have a fiduciary obligation to provide profit for their shareholders but not give you the best treatment. But the "real scandals" as pointed out by Cardiologist Peter Wilmshurst at a talk given at the centre of evidence medicine are that regulators fail to prevent misconduct by industry and that doctors, institutions and journals whose primary responsibility should be to patients and scientific integrity "collude with industry for financial gain." ..... a post that Diana Young posted: https://www.facebook.com/diana.young.161446/posts/560132004167821

Exxon and others may have to answer for alleged lies about global warming
"The Exxon investigations began after a series of investigative reporting published by Inside Climate News, the Los Angeles Times and other outlets during the past year showed that Exxon scientists told the company about the dangers of fossil fuel burning, but that the company chose instead to fund a vast network of climate denial think tanks to sow confusion about the science."

BBC - Future - The man who studies the spread of ignorance
"Proctor found that ignorance spreads when firstly, many people do not understand a concept or fact and secondly, when special interest groups – like a commercial firm or a political group – then work hard to create confusion about an issue. In the case of ignorance about tobacco and climate change, a scientifically illiterate society will probably be more susceptible to the tactics used by those wishing to confuse and cloud the truth. Consider climate change as an example. “The fight is not just over the existence of climate change, it’s over whether God has created the Earth for us to exploit, whether government has the right to regulate industry, whether environmentalists should be empowered, and so on. It’s not just about the facts, it’s about what is imagined to flow from and into such facts,” says Proctor."

Diana Young - A BILLION DOLLAR BRAND (harm counted separately)...
Never really thought about it. Aspirin vs acetamitophen. Also, remember that all brand names are required by law to have the same active ingredient (and dosage, I think) as their generic counterparts, so save money and go generic. But use Tylenol with caution. Better to use enteric coated aspirin (EC aspirin) than Tylenol or other acetamitphen brands. .................... capitalism-greed = "McNeil says the warning would put it at a competitive disadvantage."

The Devaluation of Music: It’s Worse Than You Think — Cuepoint — Medium
#2: "...I mean music the sonic art form — imaginative, conceptual composition and improvisation rooted in harmonic and rhythmic ideas. In other words, music as it was defined and regarded four or five decades ago, when art music (incompletely but generally called “classical” and “jazz”) had a seat at the table." ................. capitalism-greed = All of these things are what happen when corporations suddenly "wake up" and realize that they can make more money by manipulating than by putting out honest, heartfelt, GOOD product... this goes for the musicians, for the writers (see #3 about the media picking stories based on name recognition), etc... me-stuff= "This is rarely remarked on, but I believe that thousands of cumulative impressions of background music assigned to “romance” and “grief” and “heroism” have laid down layers of scar tissue on our ability to feel something when tonal symphonic music is made or written in the 21st century." BlueGold comments on Scumbag CEO Martin Shkreli responds to his critics.
I knew we'd be hearing more about him. Be sure to check the main comments thread as well as the main link (screenshot of his reply) ...... Also my comments on Irene's FB post: "...why he's doing this... (hint: it's NOT to make money off the price increase of the drug...) Ok, I can't contain myself: Stock market manipulation. He's playing us for fools, WANTING everyone to get all mad, destroy the stock price. When price deflates, he buys a ton, reverses course on the drug's price increase and when the stock price goes back to normal, he's a multi-millionaire. Evil prick. On the other hand - and you're going to have to read the whole comment for this, because I've already talked too much - his whole scheme might actually force the SEC to change rules that make this kind of thing impossible in the future... so he's actually a good guy after all that? Mind blown.)"

The biggest scam bankrupting business and the middle class - Nick Hanauer
Just a LITTLE more money they need, then it'll all start trickling down. "Our crisis of income inequality wasn’t principally caused by the rich not paying enough tax, even though we don’t. it's largely the product of the $1T/yr that once went to wages, but now goes to corporate profits. And this demand and investment-killing trillion-dollar-a-year transfer of wealth from the bottom 80 percent of households to the top 1 percent is the direct result of the economic and regulatory policies both Republicans and Democrats have imposed since the dawn of the trickle down era. As policy shifted economic power from workers to owners over the past 40 years, corporate profits’ take of the U.S. economy has doubled — from an average of 6 percent of GDP during America’s post-war economic heyday to more than 12 percent today. despite this extra $1 trillion a year in corporate profits, job growth remains anemic, wages are flat, and our nation no longer seems able to afford even its most basic needs."
