Grantaire is just about to usher him out, because the room is starting to smell like Enjolras, and he shouldn’t be reacting so viscerally to that fact, he barely knows this boy, still doesn’t even know if he’s gay, when his eye falls on his open sketchbook. The preliminary sketches for Grantaire’s collection are still there, splashed across the page, and Grantaire suddenly has an idea. “If you really – if you really want to make it up to me, there is something you can do.”

Enjolras looks like Grantaire’s offered him a lifeline – he obviously doesn’t like being wrong, obviously is never in the wrong, doesn’t know how to behave. “What is it?” he asks slightly breathlessly.

“I want you to model for my collection,” Grantaire says.

(OR: Grantaire and Montparnasse are studying menswear at art school, Enjolras is the non-identical twin Montparnasse never mentioned, and everything in Grantaire's life goes to shit pretty quickly.)

A boy stood in the doorway, frozen under their stares. He had an artful mess of inky curls about his face, and was looking up at them with sharp, dark eyes. His lips parted in something caught between shock and fear, probably at being suddenly pinned under such scrutiny.

After a few seconds of uncomfortable silence, the boy opened his mouth as if to say something, but soon thought the better of it. He turned around quickly, and walked out again, shutting the door behind him.

Lamarque is the marshal who runs the Shatterdome.

When the first monster rose from the ocean and attacked San Francisco, Jean Prouvaire was so high he didn’t realise what he was watching on the TV. Neither, in his defence, did Bossuet, who was equally stoned at the time. They’d been flicking through the channels, looking for something funny to watch, and they’d settled on a monster movie.

So he’d been having more nightmares, and he’d tried to medicate with alcohol. It had happened before, but this time Bossuet and Musichetta weren’t content with promises and placations, and in truth, neither was Grantaire. It had been almost twenty years since he’d left the village. Was he supposed to live like this for the rest of his life, haunted by a place he could hardly remember?

Once he’d decided, the others wouldn’t let him change his mind. They changed direction at the next crossroads and started heading east, heading for Carentan.

In an effort to confront the source of his nightmares, Grantaire returns to his childhood village in order to burn down his father's old house and get some closure. When he arrives, he discovers that in order to do that he'll have to provide a new home for the family now living there, and though he can afford the expense, he has to lodge with the mayor's son, Enjolras, while he waits for building to be completed.

This has got to be the strangest day Combeferre has ever had.
Strangest past three days, actually. Starting with the one where his parents were shot in an alley. He’s feeling unfortunately Batman. It started with that, was led up by being shoved into the back of a muggers car, and is currently in a space of a beautiful stranger who smells like wood smoke and has a charcoal wreath of black ink wavering around their head. Their hair is so dark it seems like you could smudge it across paper with your thumb.
(or in which kids are homeless and somehow faeries)
