jaydick, your average witch's familiars are cats, bats, spiders, and frogs not chainsmoking, hotrod riding badboys from hell. then again, dick grayson is no average witch. he might not know how it happened, but he doesn't exactly regret it either....

Caught in the Tide - firefright - DCU [Archive of Our Own]
Dick is a sea witch, living alone on an island except for the company of a young merman called Jason, whose life he saved after a hurricane years before. Struggling to fight his feelings in the face of Jason's eager courtship of him, Dick is stuck trying to figure out what path he should take. But when an old enemy stops by to visit the island to threaten them both, he quickly realises the answer to his situation may not be so complicated after all - though that clarity doesn't come without a cost.

Some Kinda Matthew Swift AU
Basically, it was three in the morning, I fucking love the Matthew Swift books, and Grantaire would be the best urban sorcerer.  For this, all you really need to know is that “Domine Dirige Nos” is a spell, of sorts, to get you from one place to another in a hurry.

Combeferre adds more honey to his tea; Grantaire can hear the silver spoon clinking against the porcelain teacup. “You realize how severe the repercussions from this could be,” Combeferre says.

“A parent intentionally cursing their own child?” Grantaire shudders. “It’s a legal problem as well as an emotionally devastating one, if Enjolras ever finds out. Not to mention the complete financial disaster tied up with all of that gold.”

Uncurling Lifelines - Chapter 1 - lyres - Les Misérables - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]
“Do the rings under my eyes make me look shady?”
“No more than usual,” Musichetta said. “Worried about your image?”
“About my customers.” Grantaire blew on his cup of coffee. “I mean, you'd get that, right? It's our business to be trustworthy.”
“No, that's my business,” Musichetta corrected. “Your business is to seem trustworthy and never let people know that there's not a magically gifted bone in your body.”

(In which Grantaire pretends to have magic, Enjolras pretends not to, Jehan struggles to work out the morals of working as an alley witch, and Musichetta just wants to tell fortunes from the back of her kiosk in peace.)

Hold my Eyes to the Sky - myrmidryad - Les Misérables - All Media Types [Archive of Our Own]
If Enjolras wanted to build his own pyre, let him. Grantaire didn’t need to burn at his side for the sake of some doomed quest for equal rights.

Paris, 1971. Grantaire is a werewolf, reluctantly persuaded into letting a recently-bitten journalist Enjolras interview him for a book he's writing about lycanthropy, and the prejudices and practical difficulties werewolves experience, from job discrimination to being hunted for black market potion ingredients.

I Put a Spell On You
Grantaire mostly uses his magic to do little things like making food more delicious, but with Enjolras suddenly paying attention to him, he's worried he might have used it for something else.
