The “Bernie Bros” Narrative: a Cheap Campaign Tactic Masquerading as Journalism and Social Activism
"I see nothing wrong with journalists being vehemently devoted to a political candidate. But it's important to know what it is... Have pro-Clinton journalists and pundits been subjected to some vile, abusive, and misogynistic rhetoric from random, anonymous internet supporters of Sanders who are angry over their Clinton support? Of course they have. Does that reflect in any way on the Sanders campaign or which candidate should win the Democratic primary? Of course it does not."

Tamir Rice: The story behind the senseless killing, character assassination, and resulting cover-up
"the police told what appear to be at least five lies about what happened.
1. Police said that Tamir Rice was seated at a table with other people.
2. Police said that as they pulled up, they saw Tamir Rice grab the gun and put it in his waistband.
3. Police said they got out of the car and told Tamir Rice three times to put his hands up but he refused.
4. Police said that Tamir Rice then reached into his waistband and pulled out the gun, and was then shot and killed by Officer Timothy Loehmann.
5. Timothy Loehmann was described as a rookie."

Face it, black people. Michael Brown let you down. — Culture Club — Medium
"A man was born under magical circumstances, lived among the poor and sick, and performed miracles. He was sentenced to a brutal and unjust death, which he accepted, because it was for the good of his neighbors — even those that hated him. He was, literally, perfect.

"Maybe that’s why the recent revelation that Jesus may have had a wife is so controversial. People are angry about this, but they shouldn’t be. After all, what’s the matter with having a wife? If you believe, it doesn’t change anything, at all. He still performed miracles. He still died. He still came back. He’s still God’s son. You can still pray to him.

"But maybe the issue is that as a (formerly) Puritan society, we need our saviors to be spotless, to be clean. Perhaps that’s what all the fuss is about."

Taibbi on Bill Moyers vs. Bill O'Reilly | Common Dreams
"O'Reilly bashed PBS for funding lefty agitators like Bill Moyers. "Here's what we get – a $16 trillion debt, and we've gotta pay for Bill Moyers," O'Reilly boomed. He also at one point held up a flash card with a picture of Moyers, along with the headline, "Why is NPR getting our money?"

There were only two problems with O'Reilly's argument:

1) Bill Moyers doesn't work for NPR, and never has.

2) Bill Moyers doesn't receive any money from PBS. His show is entirely self-supported by donors. If anything, Moyers supports public television."

saving this mostly for the comments ;) "penis cheney"? lol

I find it so ironic (actually, disgusting) that...
'...that the media continues to disseminate this image of the scary terrorist looking to undermine Western “freedom” and “values,” who is generally portrayed as a non-white/foreign individual, follower of Islam/any other “Asian”/”Middle Eastern” religion, etc., only to further perpetuate hatred of a people and embed irrational fear into the populace. Then, when something like the shooting today happens, they throw their hands in the air and deliver the usual “How could something like this happen?” Really? Well, I have a pretty good idea…'

Our “white people problems” problem: Why it’s time to stop using “white” as a pejorative  | TV | For Our Consideration | The A.V. Club
"To some extent, this is mainly a personal beef. I get annoyed whenever anyone slaps a label on something and then presumes that the label itself says all that needs to be said. Whenever a critic or a potential audience member sniffs about “dad rock” or “chick lit” or “one for the fanboys,” it raises my hackles. If you’d rather not engage with what a piece of art actually is—as in, what it expresses and how well it expresses it—then fine. But don’t presume some kind of superiority because of that choice. One of the biggest fallacies in the way we talk about art is this idea that somehow personal taste equates to quality: That each of us miraculously only enjoys movies and music that are the best of their respective medium, and ergo, any movies and music we don’t enjoy must be terrible."

David Byrne's Journal: 12.13.11: Odyshape
"They too believe that what they are seeing is 'real,' despite intellectually knowing that a picture has been doctored or an actress, reality star or celebrity wife surgically enhanced. These visual buttons and triggers that are being pressed are deeply ingrained in us as a species—mere rational thinking is powerless as a way of discounting them."

"We instinctively want to believe that a merit-based world exists—that with some hard work, focus, time, effort and perseverance, you too will be rewarded with the body you see on the billboard. The same also applies to our notions of economic well-being. As a result, you have Bill O’Reilly and Newt Gingrich (among many others) implying that poor people are poor simply because they aren’t trying hard enough (note the clever segue from Barbie to politics and economics). The implication is that poor people, or anyone who isn’t successful, just aren’t applying themselves or trying hard enough. Also, that less than fabulously attractive people similarly aren’t going to the gym enough. The corollary is that Bill and Newt are as wealthy as they are because they worked hard. This, excuse me, is bullshit."

Dear Media, Penn State Is Not A 'Sex Scandal,' It's A Rape Scandal | Mediaite
"The nomenclature surrounding 'sex crimes' is already hopelessly sterile, and the media routinely refers to cases of rape and sexual assault as 'sex scandals,' but that makes it no less important to call them out every time they do it.

"Sandusky is not accused of 'having sex' with little boys, he is accused of raping them. In our civilization, 'sex' with a child is not possible, since a child cannot consent to sex."
