The six ways we talk about a teenage girl’s age - Salon.com
"Last week, Montana District Judge G. Todd Baugh declared a troubled, now dead, 16-year-old girl culpable for her own rape. (The girl was just 14 when the crime occurred.) While in the process of reducing her rapist’s 15-year sentence to 30 days, he explained that the victim was 'older than her chronological age,' and 'as much in control of the situation' as the 49-year-old teacher found guilty of raping her.
...
"This happens with dulling regularity, and has for years.
...
"An adolescent girl isn't allowed to be 'her age.' Indeed, she doesn't actually have one age but many that people assess and judge as she goes through her day. When it comes to sexual assault, consent and justice, and individual girl's 'age' is especially a matter of social construction.
...
"First, there's her chronological age.
Second, there's the age her body looks — which, for too many people in and out of the justice system, apparently makes a difference in rape.
Third, there's emotional age.
Fourth, there's commercially profitable age.
Fifth, there's media age.
Lastly, there's the age at which a girl is portrayed as 'fair game' for older men."

The Myth of the Teenage Temptress: Or Why A Young Girl Can Not Consent to Sex With An Adult Man | xoJane
"[O]n Monday, Stacey Rambold, a Senior High teacher convicted of raping 14-year-old Cherice Morales, who later committed suicide, was sentenced to spend just 30 days in jail. The judge justified his decision in part by saying he listened to recorded statements given by Morales before her death and believes that while she was a troubled youth, she was 'as much in control of the situation' as Rambold.

"The judge also said Morales was 'older than her chronological age.'

"Yep, you read that right. A 14-year-old 'troubled youth' who eventually committed suicide (as a direct result of the sexual assault and its aftermath, according to her mother) had 'control over the situation' with a 49-year-old rapist. But don't worry, this wasn't 'the kind of rape most people think about,' according to Judge G. Todd Baugh. 'It was not a violent, forcible, beat-the-victim rape, like you see in the movies.' He generously added that 'It was nonetheless a rape...and this should not have occurred.'"
