pathod
pathod is a pathological HTTP/S daemon, useful for testing and torturing HTTP clients. At pathod's heart is a tiny, terse language for crafting HTTP responses. The simplest way to use pathod is to fire up the daemon, and specify the response behaviour you want using this language in the request URL.

httpstat.us
This is a super simple service for generating different HTTP codes.

It's useful for testing how your own scripts deal with varying responses.

Just add the status code you want to the URL, like this: httpstat.us/200

Product Performances | Dustin Curtis
What if we thought about products as performances instead of tools or deliverables? Everything takes on a different meaning. Bugs and “known issues” become personal flaws. How well the user accomplishes his or her goals become a personal reflection of the creators. In fact, most creative industries throughout history have had this component, called craftsmanship, and it’s a bond between creator and user. But it seems to have been lost, somehow, in the expanding bureaucracy and process of modern companies. In very few companies do designers and engineers feel personally and emotionally attached to the end result of their work.

Using Chroots — Ubuntu Packaging Guide
If you are running one version of Ubuntu but working on packages for another versions you can create the environment of the other version with a chroot. A chroot allows you to have a full filesystem from another distribution which you can work in quite normally. It avoids the overhead of running a full virtual machine.
