The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Park - Anonymous - Parks and Recreation, Welcome to Night Vale [Archive of Our Own]
The bloodletting was just getting started when outside the operating room, in the locker where she’d stowed it, Ann’s cell began to ring.

“Umm,” she said, her hands up by her head as sterile procedures dictated. The roomful of doctors, nurses, and members of an ancient and powerful cult that she was supposed to pretend she didn’t know about all stared at her. “Sorry. That’s mine. Let’s just keep going.”

“Isn’t that the Parks Department ringtone?” asked the slender figure in the scarlet robes with a face Ann knew she must never look at.

“Nope,” Ann said.

“It is,” the less slender figure in the silver robes said. “I recognize it. Your phone plays ‘You’re My Best Friend’ by Queen when Leslie calls.”

|| Wowowowowoowwow, this was so much better than even I was expecting--a perfect fusion of the P&R characters and the NV-world and approach to life. Really darling.

paper or plastic - patho (ghostsoldier) - Welcome to Night Vale [Archive of Our Own]
Steve doesn’t lower the shovel. He may be a lot of things (all of them terrible, if you listen to Cecil “Oooooh, I’m so great because I have a radio show” Baldwin), but what he’s not is stupid. He says, “Plastic bags, huh?”

The dog grins with all three of its (his? their?) heads. Three sets of ears flick forward in canine amusement. “Awesome. So you’ve heard of us.”

|| It's perfect. Another awesome example of the way the NV-verse allows for weird exploration, and the way that its shifting possibilities offer so much room for... well. Even Steve Carlsburg.

(nothing) could be better - novembersmith - Welcome to Night Vale [Archive of Our Own]
He thought he’d been ready. He’d analyzed romantic films and television shows. He took extensive notes on a variety of porn. But for all that, he’d forgotten to take one very important variable into account.

Location.

He keeps trying to apologize.

“I just didn’t expect it!” Carlos says wretchedly. “It’s not—I don’t mind—and I do want to—with your?” Who could resist such a compellingly inarticulate offer, he thinks, and stares miserably at the black-and-white Blob gyrating on the big screen alongside Elvis.

|| A delightfully, DELIGHTFULLY science-y Carlos, and a fun spin on the experienced-virgin trope--Cecil is fantastic, and just as susceptible to getting his feelings hurt. Wonderful: fun, well-characterized, and satisfying.

The Temporal Tornado - Chapter 1 - novembersmith - Welcome to Night Vale [Archive of Our Own]
A temporal tornado reduced our most beloved scientist, Carlos, into a darling little toddler version of his already darling self, didn’t it? Yes it did, oh yes it did! Plus, a jellyfish migration is underway, a mysterious series of unexplained crevasses are appearing in the streets of Night Vale, and valuable advice is provided on the care and feeding of children.

|| A fan episode of the podcast, and OH MY GOD, is it delightful. novembersmith's Cecil voice is flawless, it's hilarious and horrifying and heartwarming and deeply, deeply insightful by turns, as it should be, and just. Super great.
