you're gonna give your love to me - irnan - Captain America (Movies), Marvel Cinematic Universe [Archive of Our Own]
“Oh my god,” says Natasha. “Please don’t hit on me, please.” She falls into a chair despairingly and puts her head in her hands. Such a bad idea, Jesus Christ, if they do hit on her, if they both hit on her, if the words you don’t have to choose cross anybody’s lips –

Such a bad idea.

She hears Steve put the newspaper on the table; the kettle boils; then there’s silence. Finally James says solemnly, “Nobody’s going to hit on you in this house. By my Aunt Ida’s grave I swear it.”

“Everybody hated your Aunt Ida,” says Steve.

In which Natasha Romanov gets dosed with sex pollen, pines self-indulgently for her best friends, dreams a lot, and has to deal with being dated.

|| I love this. I haven't seen AoU, and I likely never will, but this deals with that love plot and lays it gently to rest, all while giving us back Natasha fucked-up for her Actual Reasons and also Steve and Bucky being great. No non or dub con, Natasha rides the sex pollen out.

Learn How To Tell You Goodbye
Summary: When Phil Coulson's life model decoy is attacked on the Helicarrier, the World Security Council seizes the opportunity to send him deep undercover in Russia.

Meanwhile, back in New York, Clint Barton struggles to come to terms with the loss of his handler and unexpectedly finding himself part of the Avengers, a group of people who can't quite call themselves a team. Yet.

[[ “Is it Department X you want, or the Red Room?” he asks, raising his eyebrows at the screen.

“The Red Room is a myth,” Waterbury tells him. “A horror story to scare children into behaving. Do you really believe that, if the Russians had the ability to biologically and psychologically enhance children, we wouldn’t know about it?”
“The Red Room trained Agent Romanoff,” Nick returns, just as mildly.

Waterbury inclines her head. “Ask Agent Coulson to bring me evidence of that too,” she says, “and maybe I’ll believe you.”

“You just want evidence?” Nick asks her. “Or you want him to shut them down? Assuming I let him go, of course.”

“Just evidence for now,” Chen says. “He won’t be authorised to engage.” It isn’t surprising; even when the WSC decides to get off its ass, it rarely does so with any backbone.

Nick hates these people. He curls his fingers around the edge of his desk, out of their view, and wishes he had a button down here that fired stupidity-targeted missiles.

Maybe he could trick Stark into building him one.

“No one can know where Coulson is,” Chen says, as though Nick’s agreed to their crazy plan. “We’re talking the deepest cover possible, Fury.”

God, this is going to be a fucking nightmare. “That might be difficult. Coulson’s a popular guy.”

“How nice for him,” Waterbury says dryly. “Find an opportunity and get it done.”

The monitor flickers, then goes black.

His Fate Will Be Unlearned - Chapter 1 - scifigrl47 - The Avengers (Marvel Movies) [Archive of Our Own]
Tony Stark spent his childhood making weapons, filling the hole his father left in the world when he succumbed to alcohol, grief, and his own demons. At the age of fifteen, he ran away from home, and made it as far as MIT before all of his responsibilities caught up to him. Now seventeen, he just wants to finish his degree and escape from everything connected to the Stark name.

Steve Rogers crashed into the icy North Atlantic in the 1940's, sacrificing himself to save the world. He never expected to wake up, and now that he has, he's not sure he's glad. The US Army has other plans for him, but for now, Steve is slowly learning to live life in the 21st century, and taking classes at Boston College. He's beginning to suspect that there is no escape.

Boston College is on the T's Green Line. MIT is on the Red. The two lines meet at the Park Street Station, and so will Steve and Tony.

|| I lost my whole morning/afternoon to reading this--it's gripping, and really--emotionally rough in parts. Obie is just as bad as in canon, but it's fascinating to see everyone get to where they got in canon, through this different path. I think the characters are pretty skewed--but it's mostly through a different sort of emotional depth than the movies give them; more seriousness, less camp. A meaty, heartwrenching read.

Warnings: Obie, as stated, is emotionally and physically abusive, as is his son; Tony is a precocious and sexually active 17 year old; Howard Stark is an alcoholic; includes vivid descriptions of panic attacks and PTSD. Like I said, it's rough, although none of these are the focus of the story.

Exclusive - Chapter 1 - copperbadge - Marvel, The Avengers - Ambiguous Fandom [Archive of Our Own]
There are a thousand questions I want to ask. How he's dealing with losing a world, and for that matter with finding a new one. How he's learned about modern technology, what he thinks of history, what he hoped for when he put the uniform on again. It's hard to speak, however, over his grief. And I reason, perhaps a little guiltily, I have two weeks here. I can ask later.

Still, I'm opening my mouth to speak when Jarvis does instead.

"Captain, our guest has an engagement."

"I do?" I ask, looking up.

"Right," Captain Rogers says, and looks determined. "I'm supposed to take you to see Clint and Natasha."

It appears my carefully thought-out plan for how to approach the Avengers is being preempted. By the Avengers.

|| OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS. I kept aching while reading it--the way you do when you see a stranger do something so utterly, relentlessly HUMAN that the world expands and constricts a little--these are the Avengers, flawed and prickly and COMPLETELY team. Furthermore, copperbadge creates an underlying plot in the person and backstory of Bruce/the Hulk, that is just brilliant as a focusing device.

And so you see, the real difference is – well, the difference is a vagina and a vulva and a uterus and breasts and all the biological stuff you get that makes the nurse come out and say Congratulations Mr Stark, you have a beautiful little daughter instead of Congratulations Mr Stark, you have a bouncing baby boy, but the real difference is that Howard Stark is an inventor, and a hardass, and a loner, and damaged in all his own perfectly unique ways, and has kind of a twisted sense of humour, so that when his (according to the papers) delicately lovely precious little girl turns out to be not so delicate, not to mention capable of out-engineering the entire country, he is so goddamn proud he just about bursts with it.

They're amazing.

So, I already have a lot of feelings about this song, and it took me a bit to get over that it's on a fuck ton of my melancholic playlists, and I'm not entirely sure if it's just me, but this does have that, feels slowed down, muted, from the fast-paced joyride of the actual movie. NEVERTHELESS--the Bruce/Natasha/Clint section gave me every feeling--every single one. (I'm a killer/I know I'm wrong/yeah/I'm a problem/that'll never, ever be solved. oh lady, be good. - fic: those who are afraid of wolves
There is a saying: those who are afraid of wolves should not go into the woods. Natasha is not a wolf, but she does not fear them, either.

There is a saying: they hang the thief who stole 5 kopecks, and honor the one who stole 50. She says, “there is red in my ledger,” but what she means is, they honor me, in Russia.

elioenai - Anonymous - The Avengers (2012), His Dark Materials - Philip Pullman [Archive of Our Own]
Tony falls through the space between worlds. As a result, he can see daemons. It kind of freaks him out. (It's stranger and more beautiful than he could have ever imagined.)

Well, Tony thinks, blinking back dust and dried blood. This is different.

There's a cat sitting on his chest. An honest-to-god, shaggy-furred cat, blinking down at him and hissing at the sky.

Captain America looms somewhere just overhead, and there's a wolf at his side. Her—and it is a she, Tony knows it right away—fur is dark, but her eyes are gentle, almost worried.

The cat sitting on his chest purrs. Tony blinks. He's not entirely sure how he's supposed to react to that.

True. Ugh, this is lovely, and unsettling, which is everything I want from all daemon fic ever.

lolaraincoat | What would surprise Captain America?
And finally, geopolitical change. Probably the biggest shock would be that Europe is now united (sort of) and that Germany and France are now closely allied. Slightly less shocking, because anyone who was paying attention could see this looming over the horizon throughout the war, would be the bitter division between the US and Russia (though he might need the whole Cold War explained to him, several times, with emphasis on the bomb. Or should I say, The Bomb.) But also he would be amazed by the end of British imperialism. And the Chinese Revolution! The Iranian revolution! African decolonization and the end of apartheid! The Cuban Revolution! India and Pakistan and

... yeah, anyway, there's a lot for him to catch up on.

But not sex. Really there's not too much new there at all.

paperclipbitch: "although it's so romantic on the borderline tonight.", Avengers (2012), Nat/Bruce
“You shouldn’t google yourself,” Natasha tells Bruce.

SPOILERS FOR THE MOVIE OKAY. Very much movieverse because these are the only two characters I don’t know from the comics yet. I’m writing this crazy café AU atm that I’ll move over here from AO3 once it’s complete, but I just wanted to write some Natasha/Bruce post-movie bonding/making out stuff involving tea and trust issues and all the things, because, um, I have a lot of Natasha/Bruce feels. Like, a lot. I love Natasha and Clint as flawless exes, soulmates and BFFs, but my god, my Bruce/Nat feels, let me SHOW YOU THEM.

^AN. Oh man, this is, I think, hands-down the best Natasha I've read yet, and exactly why I came out of the movie crazy about her and crazy about Bruce, and crazy about the two of them, together. "You will explain the rules?"

"Put the ball in the basket."

"Yes, I had figured that one out," Thor says wryly.

Steve looks up and grins. Sometimes he forgets that Thor isn't just a giant Labrador puppy of a man, and that just because he doesn't know a lot about things like basketball doesn't mean he's stupid. Steve should know better; he hates it when the others treat him that way because of some future thing he hasn't gotten the hang of yet.

The best thing about this is easily the Thor--Steve's a great voice for it, and it's a great connection they have, being out of place, and the arc is Steve working through that in various ways--but the Thor here...is spot-on.
