Sky Green - Technology
Odd vertical farming layout hardware. Basically uses a continuous chain loop/ferris wheel to carry troughs up a vertical distance. So at first glance, probably not hydroponic compatible. Also, seems to focus on leafy plants, and the troughs may be shaded for half a transit on the loop. Still interesting. Apparently in commercial use in Singapore.

Looks like these guys are claiming some improvements on traditional darrieus turbine, by using foils that have active AoA pitch adjustment and some sort of double ended/reversible airfoil.

Interesting egg beater VAWT on a spar buoy concept, but if you are doing VAWT, wouldn't a helical gorlov turbine be better? Whether a spar, or a tension leg platform is better is up for debate, but a helical gorlov with a lower ring driving multiple smaller generators that also double as bearings to offload bearing torques on the center post (thus making the center post lighter), mounted on a three post tension leg offshore platform seems like win/win situation. Keeps the turbine light, increases redundancy (and provides scale economies) for the generator component, and isn't hideously complex. But, how to clear the the first 50 foot air layer where wind is weaker is an issue, one that HAWT addresses due to blade clearance issues.

British to Test Geoengineering Scheme - Technology Review
I think the geoengineering test results will probably be inconclusive due to scale, but the materials science and manufacturing research to make the early test's 1Km tall water pipe, and the projected follow on 20km tall vertical pipe for sulfur dioxide particles is more applicable to other industries. The 20 Km pipe would face a minimum raw 6000 bar pressure at the base, and there are wind/torsion loads too. That assumes it is one monolithic pipe though. Easy trick is embedding an electric cable/tether, and putting electric boost pumps at intervals so the bottom raw pressure is less.

Technip launches Vertiwind floating wind turbine project | Technip
Vertiwind aims to cut costs by using a low center of gravity VAWT, which in theory cuts down on the structure and mass of the buoy/floating structure to support the wind turbine. If you are forced to have semisubmersible styled platform to support a wind turbine, the beam of a VAWT can be reasonably compensated by the platform beam already. If it was supposed to be a spar buoy platform, you may be forced to position the VAWT higher to counteract motion to keep the sweep radius of the blades above wave height when tilted.

Caltech Researchers Find Schooling Fish Offer New Ideas For Wind Farming
Interesting idea for using constructive interference from VAWT wind turbine shed vortexes to boost apparent wind for other turbines in the array, much the same way as schools of fish and perhaps flocks of birds scavenge the vortexes being shed by the lead animal to reduce their own drag and increase lift. Only problem is that you have to tune the turbine array layout to the predominant wind speed and direction, so off-spec wind could potentially hurt performance. Winglets on individual rotors may be more universal. But many places have fairly predictable wind patterns, so the layout trick still has merit.
