Single atom displacement drops carbon nanotubes to 40GPa, multiple defects make it much worse. So unless you have a perfect set of tubes/fibers, there will be no earth space elevator using CNT's.

Oh wow, improved superconductivity just by sticking a topological insulator on top of/pressing up against a cuperate. No fancy joining or bonding or chemical interaction or plasma deposition. Just touching basically, bridged by a thin layer of double sided scotch tape.

Interesting work on a actual magnetic topological insulator. In theory this should allow reductions in line transmission losses. But this needs magnetic materials, and currently requires cryogenic cooling, so on the face of it, it isn't much better than current high temperature superconductors. Might be more applicable to chip scale stuff, especially if they can get the working temperature up.

New material trick creates a surface only room temperature superconducting zone. Not useful for big things or high currents, so no superconducting powerlines, but it looks like the effect may be applicable to chips and other semiconductors.
