New hybrid ceramic for use in heat exchangers. Start with a titanium carbide porous block, immerse in a copper and zirconium bath. The zirconium infiltrates the ceramic and displaces titanium in the carbide, while the titanium migrates into the open pores. Copper ends up being a thin film sealant.

Possible new absorbent that might allow sulfur removal from natural gas or coal/biomass derived syngas without a cooling/liquid step (which normally complicates the process and introduces energy inefficiencies). This would make coal or biomass based syngas much more appealing, especially for advanced syngas combustion cycles that allow for easier carbon capture.

Using an extruded filament method, they build up titanium parts, like making a clay pot from rolled tubes of clay (when you don't have a turning table to make a regular pot). Similar to traditional extruder 3D printers, but it isn't a full melt/fusion type. It might be more akin to the concrete contour crafting tricks. Thermally it might be easier than traditional 3D metal printers, which use a metal powder buildup with sintering, when they are otherwise not directly melting/fusing via laser. Are these parts as good as traditional heavy press closed die forgings though?
