SRC "Sea Launch" purchase
So SeaLaunch changes hands again officially, now owned by S7 airlines. Notable is that they appear to want to modifify the SeaLaunch platforms to accommodate Syouz-5 aka Fenix, which also implies use of Federastia, the new passenger capsule.

Russian Icebreakers With Frickin' Laser Beams - gCaptain Maritime & Offshore News
Okay, using a laser to score ice fields to make it easier to break through by introducing a fault is not insane, in the context that there were serious proposals to use excess reactor heat to run steam jets from an icebreaker's bow to assist icebreaking. But, this smells like a military naval laser program in civil clothing...

Some russian company is crowdfunding a start for a large satellite telephone/data system, using over 100 LEO sats. Probably all digital data+VoIP. Seems to user lasers for orbital crosslinks, so sorta like Iridium (which also debated using lasers for crosslinks but chose RF for both generations of sats). The idea here is a separate portable accesspoint/wifi router device, to avoid telephone device lockin issues.

So this ex-astronaut thinks it's a good idea to resurrect Almaz hardware for commercial spaceflight purposes. Which basically means he would have to bankroll the same work that went into converting the current Soyuz to digital flight hardware, on a vehicle with far less flight hours logged. It would make more sense to build a Soyuz variant with a larger service module and maybe a Block DM upper stage to make up for the increase in mass. At least that's still in production.

Superlight armour jacket announced | SciTech from 2009-02-27 till 2009-02-27 | RT
Possible alternative armored vest design , which takes some design cues from the dragonscale armor much touted by soldiers and PMC's in Iraq. I think it is a form of forced tumbling of the bullet, so it can't hit the real armor layer underneath using the point of the bullet, and instead the armor layer gets hit with a bullet that is traveling sideways, which improves the spread of kinetic energy in the armor layer and thus reduces the chances of penetration Doesn't solve the problem of it hurting like hell though, but maybe a shear thickening layer of gel padding underneath the main armor layer might help mitigate it from being kicked by mule to being assaulted by a phonebook.
