Energysquare - The new way of charging
So this is basically conductive squares with insulator gaps, and a chip to determine if a short over two pads is a receiver strip or not. This might be suitable for UAV drone recharging since it's connectorless, but not true wireless charging (inductive or resonant)

Sounds like a phased array antenna for the transmitter, so not resonance based? Plus it stomps all over the high wifi bands. Part of PMA, so the underlying tech should be inductive, which suggests the phased array concept even more.

Er, wireless as in no connector/wire adapter, but it uses physical contact points in a pattern to connect to the backend charger in a car dash or center console. Interesting, but what happens when you short the contact pattern by spilling soda?

Interesting that parking area interior navigation is achieved not by RF or visual beaconing, but using a vehicle's intrinsic object avoidance sensor visual imagery to match with a path given by the parking area's management server via a series of stored photos.

Rezence now has resonant mode (A4WP) and inductive mode specs now, the inductive mode being PMA (so in theory very similar to QI with possible dual mode Qi/PMA). So the ideal final receiver would be a Rezence tri-mode chip and coil setup.

AW4P is most definitely NOT Qi. Apparently they use some sort of longer range magnetic resonant type induction charging, using bluetooth 4 to negotiate connectivity. As opposed to Qi, which uses something similar to NFC to negotiate.

New USB 3.0 Standard Has Power To Charge Laptops
This might have legs, but the fundamental problem is where and how to deliver the power. Laptops can use the spec for a common wall charger, but they definitely won't be able to power downstream devices at a full 100W. So you have this weird situation where devices that consume power need to be capable of consuming power at all 5 power levels, or at least sensibly give up on high power modes and live with normal USB power. The slightly weird situation would be desktops that refuse to provide power, but an intermediate powered hub can.

Conceptually interesting, in that if the card attachment point is "universal" it lets others into the wireless charging game. But don't they only support their own protocol/interface, and don't support Qi?

Promoting fast recharging via large energy transfers with EV buses via an overhead pantograph on the bus and a fixed rail at the bus stop. Though that recent work with wireless induction chargers mounted in the roadbed at a bus stop seems less prone to problems.

Interesting, using Styrofoam beads as a temporary lattice building framework to make a metal lattice, which is later covered with the final thin film. This creates a very high surface area, allowing super fast charging. But, still like SCiB batteries, it seems the energy density is lower than conventional electrode batteries of the same type (around 75%) . A worthy flaw to allow fast charging? But that doesn't get around the high amperage issues of fast charging, and there is the scary part about fast accidental discharge, so you face the same issues as ultracapacitors.

Toyota to Develop Home Energy Management System with Storage Battery -- Tech-On!
Toyota getting in to the home energy management game. Naturally their end goal is the ability to do overnight and quick charging of PHEV and EV type vehicles, but this could be a tidy little business in it's own right if they work with construction suppliers and power companies to link into smart grids. Naturally local generation (solar, wind, natural gas fuelcell) and local storage have big parts to play in a smart grid, so making a good agnostic controller/management system is a must.
