Mirabo's air breathing laser lightcraft used lasers to ignite air plasma, this is proposing something similar using microwaves for a rocket booster stage, then beamed microwave thermal for the second stage.

Notable here is the determination that you can cheat the trajectory to favor a higher altitude initial vertical boost, take the gravity loss hit during a cold coast to the second beam director LoS, then have a longer second stage beamed thermal burn. Allegedly 3x payload compared to a UAV air drop launch to a single beam director site?

But how does a common microwave beam work here for first and second stages? Is the first beaming site only a pulsed microwave system? Does microwave PDE even work with continuous wave microwaves?

The Pulse Combustion Tesla Turbine
Okay, this is a little weird, but potentially interesting as a high rpm motor. You have a pulsejet combustion chamber feeding a tesla turbine to extract power. Since the pulsejet is a PDE, and thus shockwave based, you potentially have near complete combustion without having a precompressor. Hrm, I wonder if a RamGen engine could feed it's disk's exhaust into a counterrotating coaxial tesla turbine for secondary power extraction (the tesla turbine could be direct geared to counterrotate with the disk rotor since the tesla turbine should be able to rotate at the same kind of speeds)?

GE got a patent for a turbofan engine that replaces the normal can combustor and hot turbine segments with a kinky radial/spiral multiple pulse jet design using something resembling a rotary valve/blisk to perform the valve closing function for the pulsejet.
