The PDF contains info on wheelguns, giant counterrotating flywheel hoops in space to supply power to SDI weapons, mainly railguns/particle accelerator cannons/free electron lasers that need huge amounts of power right now. Appears to expect to be trickle charged over time by a small space nuclear reactor (SNAP? atomic teakettle?). Also has an interesting microwave power beaming scenario from a nuke in mars synchronous orbit to a ground rover, high performance radiators, including a fabric heatpipe radiator, a curie point magnetic liquid droplet radiator, and other power conversion concepts.

Nuclear piston engine, using gaseous "fuel" and hydrogen gas moderator, with neutron reflector piston and cylinder. Uses piston top-dead-center compression effects and a "spark" (external neutron source, like an ADSR particle accelerator neutron spallation target, or some sort of cylinder wall embedded neutron source). Wonder if LiquidPiston reverse wankel would also work well here. Negative void coefficient is nice too.

Like a car engine that runs off it's own supercharger (which makes starting a bit of an issue...), this starship propulsion concept uses waste neutron pulses from the pulsed fusion reaction to neutron pump a nuclear pumped laser which fires for the next ICF fusion pulse.

BNL Newsroom | Breakthrough Iron-based Superconductors Set New Performance Records
New high current/high magnetic field/high temperature superconductor that is iron based that beats the pants off of existing iron and cuperate superconductors. Demonstrated 1MA/cm2 critical current, 200KA/cm2 at 30T at 43K (not quite LN2 temps but close), and they think they can up the temperature by further tweaking the layering.

Interesting anecdote about using carbon graphite coils as part of of a high powered microwave weapon. Though it claims they generate the EMP, so is it a single shot pulsed power supply then?

A variation on the accelerator driven thorium system theme, with a laser induced plasma pumping electrons into a tantalum target, dumping gamma (X-ray) into thorium. Rather than a traditional ADSR which fires electrons into a target for neutron spallation into thorium.
