Wow, that's actually pretty smart, if the local energy generation and storage for the periodic stimulus firing is sufficient and it isn't a large device to stuff into someones chest. Also much simpler and potentially more failsafe than say a blood sugar powered fuel cell.

Interesting. I suppose one concept is direct implantation to power body internal devices, but then you would have a weird wheezing buzz in your chest when you breath. The other obvious one is mounting in a mouthpiece/respirator to power small sensors/devices in breathing gear, such as SCUBA or firefighter respirators or even regular gas masks

I think this is implying using piezoelectric setup, where an acoustic wave wiggles the material, creating imbalances to collect solar PV charges (rather than inherent doped electrons and holes like normal solar cells), which get hauled over to electrodes. I don't think this is implying something like thermoacoustic piezoelectric generators...

I'm having a little trouble figuring out how you get the poles to lean back and forth in a steady wind. Artificially texture the pole surface to create turbulence maybe? Is there enough natural turbulence and wind speed change to ensure the pole swings enough to generate a practical amount of energy? I wonder if this could be built in a smaller form like some sort of rooftop astroturf module for building retrofits?

Almost solid state hard disk, shifts hard disk platter tech from spinning, to a translating platter, then upping the number of read/write heads since they are fixed and can be arranged in a large array. Kinky, using piezoelectric linear actuation. Certainly has the potential for much higher read/write speed since you are using an array of heads. The only problem is the relative lifetime of the platter and actuators, and what kind of wear would you experience?
