Photothermally-Activated Pyroelectric Polymer Films for Harvesting of Solar Heat with a Hybrid Energy Cell Structure - ACS Nano (ACS Publications)
Stacking a PV layer on top of a pyroelectric layer stacked on a thermoelectric layer means light not captured by the PV layer gets turned into heat/power by the pyroelectric layer, and the resulting thermal difference with ambient is utilized by the thermoelectric layer. Claimng +20%.

IBM integrated microchannel chip cooling used to make solar cell panels with integrated liquid cooling, rather than sandwiched to a primary heat exchanger backing the solar cell panel. Supposedly reduces pumping power costs.

Oddball mix of inflatable mirror/lens assembly mounted on a lightweight fiber reinforced concrete frame. Essentially makes a closed, slightly pressurized container for the energy production components, to protect them from rain and air contamination. Though the ETFE film getting discolored due to age/exposure reducing power output might be a problem. The collector is universal, in the sense that the central core receiver can be either the CSP type using pressurized air for the heat transfer fluid (which nominally gets dumped through a gravel tank for heat storage), or a water cooled CPV receiver. Recently did work with IBM using IBM chip semiconductor manufacturing techniques to make CPV water cooled solar cell panels with integrated cooling in the silicon.via microchannels.

Also supporting import of energy surpluses from northern and southern regions of japan to fuel the power hungry core. Also making some policy complaints about right of grid interconnect rejection by regional power monopolies hampering renewable energy rollouts.

Technique Solar : Finally. Solar Energy Being delivered at the Same Price as Fossil Fuels.
Interesting PVT type hybrid PV/thermal concentrating solar power generator. They are using packing tricks to slot in electronics and other hardware in the gap spaces between concentrator prisms. Still needs an active tracker though.

I think this is implying using piezoelectric setup, where an acoustic wave wiggles the material, creating imbalances to collect solar PV charges (rather than inherent doped electrons and holes like normal solar cells), which get hauled over to electrodes. I don't think this is implying something like thermoacoustic piezoelectric generators...

The low cost innovation seems to be the fresnel lens style segmented flat panel parabolic glass mirror array that makes up the trough, since flat mirrors in long planar sheets are cheap. New version also does AC via an adsorption chiller

Solar Thermal Electrochemical Photo (STEP) Carbon Capture could Reduce Atmospheric CO2 to Pre-industrial Levels in Ten Years
Using an externally electrically driven molten lithium carbonate cell to crack CO2 down to C or CO, CO being fed into synthetic fuel processes, C for solid state long term sequestration/storage or as nanotube feedstock. Uses Solar CPV with thermal recovery to heat the cells and drive them electrically. Absolutely no mention of how the CO2 would be captured for input into the electrolysis cell (basically the same as a MSFC fuelcell, only without the hydrogen fuel) though.
